Summary: This study assessed the risk factors for infection in diabetic foot patients and found that smoking, lower socio-economic status, blood vessel complications, retinopathy, osteomyelitis, diabetic nephropathy, and the number of foot ulcers were associated with increased infection risk.

Summary: Diabetic foot ulceration is a severe complication of diabetes that requires comprehensive treatment and preventive measures. Classification is the important foundation for clinical diagnosis and management, focusing on common risk factors can help prevent and manage the condition in a timely manner. Preventive education and effective management approaches are equally important.

Summary: This study determined the prevalence of Cryptosporidium infection in calves in three Egyptian governorates and assessed the associated risk factors. The study found that age, feeding source, hygienic status, presence of diarrhea, and contact with other animals were significantly associated with Cryptosporidium prevalence in calves. PCR analysis showed that C. parvum was the most prevalent species among calves.

Summary: This study evaluated the incidence and prevalence rates of diabetic foot ulceration in a population of people with diabetes in Barbados, as well as explored the risk factors for new/recurrent ulceration. The results showed that retinopathy, chronic kidney disease, aspirin use, and clopidogrel use were associated with diabetic foot ulceration.

Summary: A meta-analysis study found that male gender, smoking, previous foot ulcer, osteomyelitis, gangrene, hypertension, and white blood cell count were risk factors for lower extremity amputation in patients with diabetic foot ulcers. However, caution should be exercised when using these results due to the small sample sizes of several selected studies.

Summary: This study analyzed the microbiological characteristics and drug resistance of diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) patients, and identified the potential risk factors for multidrug-resistant organisms (MDROs). Previous hospitalization, ulcer size >4cm(2), surgical therapy, and CRP were found to be independent risk factors for MDROs infection in diabetic foot patients.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to assess the risk factors for morbidity and mortality of diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs). The study also investigated the effectiveness of negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) combined with platelet-rich plasma-fibrin glue (PRP) in the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers. They found new risk factors for DFUs and concluded that the combination therapy could accelerate wound healing and reduce mortality rate.

Summary: The imbalance of the skin microbial community could impair skin immune homeostasis, leading to skin lesions. This study aimed to investigate the composition and function of the foot skin microbiome in relation to the risk of diabetic foot and determine if dysbiosis of the skin microbiome induces diabetic skin lesions.

Summary: This study identified urine albumin-creatinine ratio (UACR) and vibration perception threshold (VPT) as independent risk factors for foot ulcer recurrence in patients with comorbid diabetic foot osteomyelitis and diabetic nephropathy. The study also suggested that microcirculation disorders play a major role in the recurrence of foot ulcer in these patients.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the prevalence of diabetic foot disease (DFD) and its associated risk factors among subjects attending primary care centers in Catalonia (Spain). The results showed that male sex, duration of diabetes, diabetes complications, and previous history of DFD were strongly associated with the presence of DFD.

Summary: This study analyzed the clinical characteristics of diabetic inpatients with foot ulcers and explored the risk factors for lower extremity amputation. The study found that diabetic patients with amputation were older, had longer duration of diabetes, poor glycemic control, malnutrition, peripheral arterial disease, and severe foot ulcers with infection. A history of prior amputation, foot gangrene, and low ankle brachial index were independent predictors of lower extremity amputation.

Summary: This study evaluated the risk of death after hospitalizations for diabetic foot complications and compared two cohorts with or without a prior history of hospitalizations. The findings showed that the mortality rate was higher in the cohort with previous hospitalizations. Amputations and ulcers had the greatest impact on survival, while revascularization procedures were associated with a lower risk of mortality. The prevalence of minor amputations slightly increased over time, while the rate of gangrene decreased, suggesting a more proactive approach to care in Tuscany.
