Summary: Composite electrodeposition was used to prepare Zn-Ni-B4C composite superhydrophobic plating with hierarchical micro/nanostructures on Q235 steel. The addition of micron B4C particles promoted the formation of protrusion structures, while the change in current density promoted the development of hierarchical rough structures. The plating exhibited excellent superhydrophobicity with a water contact angle of 159 degrees and showed good corrosion resistance in a 3.5 wt% NaCl solution.

Summary: The study investigates the impact of different Zn concentrations on the microstructure, corrosion property, and mechanical property of Mg-0.3Sc-xZn alloys. MSZ1 alloy exhibits the highest corrosion resistance and appropriate mechanical properties. The corrosion resistance of Mg-0.3Sc-1Zn alloys is attributed to the homogeneous volta-potential distribution and dense corrosion product film.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of varying Zn additions on the corrosion resistance of wrought Mg-5Al alloys, identifying three secondary phases that contribute to changes in the corrosion behavior. While short periods of immersion are characterized by pitting corrosion, long periods lead to the formation of a protective layer and filiform corrosion in alloys with higher Zn content. The micro-galvanic effects continue to play a crucial role in deteriorating corrosion resistance in alloys with relatively high Zn content, depending on the behavior of the cathodic particles and their total number on the alloy's surface.

Summary: A high-performance alloy, Zr0.8Ta0.2Fe1.7Co0.3, with isotropic zero thermal expansion (ZTE) behavior, high corrosion resistance, and excellent thermal and structural stability, is reported. The multiple stabilities are attributed to the alloy's cubic symmetry, controllable magnetic order, and the formation of a passive film with Ta and Zr chemical modifications. The alloy has the potential for robust applications in marine services and other fields.

Summary: Three high-performance as-extruded Mg-Gd-Zn-Zr alloys were prepared and their microstructure, mechanical properties, and corrosion resistance were studied. The results showed that the alloys had refined and broken grains and second phase after hot extrusion. The as-extruded GZ22 alloy exhibited the highest ultimate tensile strength and the lowest corrosion rate due to fine grains and a small amount of dispersed second phase.

Summary: The influence of heat treatments on the corrosion behavior of Mg-Re alloy was investigated. It was found that heat treatment can decrease the corrosion rate of the alloy and form fine corrosion grooves. The improved homogeneity and the introduction of beta' precipitate as a corrosion barrier contribute to the reduced corrosion rate.

Summary: The electrodeposition-redox replacement (EDRR) method was investigated for the preparation of two types of functional surfaces. The effects of operating parameters such as deposition potential, deposition time, and redox replacement time were comprehensively studied. The results showed that coherent Cu/Zn/Ag coatings with various chemical compositions, crystalline phases and surface morphology could be obtained when Zn was used as the sacrificial metal. On the other hand, separated Cu/Ag particles with controllable chemical composition, particle size, and tunable surface plasmon resonance behavior were formed when Cu was the sacrificial metal. The EDRR method showed great versatility in creating high value-added functional materials from complex hydrometallurgical solutions.

Summary: The corrosion resistance of Mg-Y-Zn based alloys is dependent on the adjusted Y/Zn mole ratio affecting the arrangement of LPSO phase. Increasing the Y/Zn mole ratio decreases the size of LPSO phase plates and leads to the precipitation of Mg24Y5 phase, which in turn greatly increases the corrosion rate of the alloys. This is attributed to the decreasing size of LPSO phase plates acting as cathodes, further increasing hydrogen evolution kinetics.

Summary: The effects of Al/Mo content on phase, microstructure, mechanical and corrosion properties of AlxCrFeNi2.5Mo1-x high-entropy alloys were investigated. With the increase of Al content, the alloy phases evolved from FCC + sigma phase to FCC + BCC + sigma phase and finally to FCC + BCC phase, and the microstructure transformed from hypoeutectic to hypereutectic. Among all the alloys, Al1.0CrFeNi2.5 alloy exhibited excellent comprehensive mechanical properties. Additionally, Mo element improved the pitting corrosion resistance but promoted the formation of sigma phase, leading to an uneven distribution of Cr elements and reduced resistance to localized corrosion.

Summary: In this study, novel low-cost lightweight high entropy alloys Al35Mg30-xZn30Cu5Six (x = 5, 10, 15) were designed and prepared. The microstructures, mechanical properties, and corrosion behavior of the alloys were investigated, showing that the alloys have complex phase structures but exhibit good compressive strength. With the increase of Si/Mg ratio, the alloys' mechanical properties and corrosion resistance improved.

Summary: This study investigates the mechanical properties, biodegradability and biocompatibility of Zn-Mg and Zn-Cu alloys for potential use in bioresorbable cardiovascular stents. The addition of Mg or Cu alloying elements refines the microstructure of Zn while improving yield strength and ultimate tensile strength. Both Zn-1Mg and Zn-Cu alloys showed promising results in terms of degradation stability and antibacterial effects.

Summary: This study proposes a photoelectrode for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) based on p-type silicon (p-Si) passivated with a 10 nm ultrathin alumina (Al2O3) layer and modified with microformations of a nickel catalyst. The alumina film improves electronic properties and protects the surface while enabling the deposition of nickel microformations. The nickel catalyst significantly increases the HER rate, comparable to a hydrogen-terminated electrode.
