Summary: In this study, alginate magnetic graphene oxide biocomposite was synthesized and used for the removal and extraction of aromatic amines from water samples. The physiochemical characteristics of the biocomposite were investigated and it was found to retain the functional groups of graphene oxide and alginate while possessing magnetic properties. The biocomposite was applied to water samples under optimized experimental conditions, and showed high adsorption capacities for aniline, p-chloroaniline, and p-nitroaniline. The study also suggested ethanol as the best eluent for the extraction process, and high percent recoveries were achieved for all three analytes, indicating the potential of the biocomposite as an effective and eco-friendly adsorbent for organic pollutant removal in water treatment processes.

Summary: In this study, a method for quantifying nine biogenic amines in wine using ion chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (IC-MS/MS) without derivatization was developed. The method featured good linearity, low limits of detection and quantification, and high recoveries. The levels of biogenic amines in commercially available Chinese wines varied significantly based on geographical origin. The exposure to biogenic amines in wines was found to be lower than the recommended level for healthy individuals but could lead to symptoms in susceptible individuals.

Summary: Sodium thiocyanate is a naturally antibacterial component in milk, but excessive consumption may pose potential risks to human health. In this study, a robust and cost-effective method based on surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) was developed for NaSCN detection using paper substrates deposited with in situ reduced Ag nanoparticles. The proposed method exhibited high sensitivity, a wide linear range, and good reproducibility, making it suitable for NaSCN detection and milk analysis.

Summary: This study developed a sensitive and selective UHPLC-MS/MS method for the detection of 23 PAAs, showing the advantage of APCI as an alternative method for the analysis of PAAs. The developed method was applied to the analysis of kitchenware samples, where PAAs concentrations above the legislated limit were detected in 18 out of 20 samples.

Summary: In this study, an ion-chromatographic method was optimized to separate and quantify the ten most abundant atmospheric alkylamines. The research found that modern resin suppressors affected the linear response of the IC technique. By using a stepped current and an external water supply, operational longevity of the suppressor was improved, and the method successfully detected and quantified previously unreported alkylamines in marine aerosol samples. The study also found the presence of ammonia in new homes, indicating its potential transport outdoors.

Summary: Magnetic chitosan-graphene oxide composite was successfully synthesized and used for the adsorption and extraction of aromatic amines. The maximum adsorption capacities were determined, and kinetic and adsorption isotherm models were applied to analyze the data. The adsorption process was found to be spontaneous and exothermic, and the adsorbent showed successful application in spiked aqueous samples.

Summary: In this study, the degree of oxidation and the content of heterocyclic amines (HCAs) in pork patties refrigerated at 7 degrees C for different periods of time were compared. It was found that the production of HCAs was suppressed in sodium nitrite (SN) and paprika extract (PE) treatments, while oxidation and protein oxidation had a significant impact on the formation of HCAs.

Summary: Current trends in Green Analytical Chemistry focus on simplifying sample treatment, but food matrices are often too complex for direct analysis. Biogenic amines, formed naturally in food products, have health implications. This study simplified the extraction of biogenic amines from beer samples using laboratory filter paper and direct infusion mass spectrometry, leading to efficient analysis.
