Summary: This study investigated the risk factors of PONV following ambulatory surgery and found that female gender, operation time, and postoperative pain were independent risk factors for PONV. Properly alleviating postoperative pain is one method to reduce the risk factors of PONV following ambulatory surgery.

Summary: This study found that female patients with a history of severe nausea and vomiting during pregnancy (SNVP) were more likely to experience PONV after breast cancer surgery, with a higher incidence of severe PONV, increased need for rescue antiemetic, and lower satisfaction levels compared to those with mild nausea and vomiting during pregnancy (MNVP).

Summary: Chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) is a common side effect of chemotherapy. This study evaluated the use of an informative booklet to reduce CINV in cancer patients undergoing their first chemotherapy cycle. The results showed that patients who received the booklet reported a lower frequency of nausea occurrence after chemotherapy. This intervention is cost-effective and time-saving.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between Helicobacter pylori (HP) and postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) after laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG). It was found that female sex, postoperative pain, and use of postoperative opioid were independent risk factors for PONV, while T2DM and OSAS reduced the incidence rate of PONV. There was no clear association between HP infection and PONV after LSG.

Summary: The study evaluated the effect of ginger tea on preventing nausea and vomiting in patients with gynecological cancers receiving cisplatin-based regimens. Results showed that ginger tea reduced the experience, development, and distress of nausea, vomiting, and retching in the intervention group. No ginger-related side effects were noted, suggesting that the use of ginger tea may be recommended for chemotherapy-associated nausea and vomiting in cancer patients.

Summary: Postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) is a multifactorial disease, with female gender being the strongest risk factor. This narrative review summarizes the incidence, predictors, interventions, and the impact of anesthetic agents on PONV incidence in female patients undergoing breast and gynecologic surgery. Results from recent clinical trials show highly variable PONV incidence in patients receiving placebo or no prophylaxis, while consistent results are observed in patients receiving prophylactic interventions. However, a considerable number of female patients still experience significant PONV.

Summary: This study examines the academic attention, major contributors, and research trends in acupuncture therapy for postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV). The findings show that Chinese authors and institutions have published a significant number of research papers in this field, while the United States has shown greater proficiency in fostering collaborative efforts. The current research focuses on pain management, electroacupuncture, auricular acupuncture, and transcutaneous electrical acupoint stimulation, with areas such as mechanism and insurance coverage still requiring further exploration.
