Summary: The synthesis and photochromic evaluation of 3-arylvinyl-3H-naphtho[2,1-b]pyrans is discussed. A cascade reaction between 1,3-diarylpent-1-en-4-yn-3-ols and variously substituted naphthols under acid catalysis leads to the formation of an intermediate photochromic naphthopyran. This intermediate then undergoes electrocyclic ring-opening and double intramolecular cyclisation, resulting in the formation of [5,5,6,6] cyclopentene fused naphthofurans.

Summary: A cobalt-catalyzed method for the C(sp(2))-C(sp(3)) Suzuki-Miyaura cross coupling of aryl boronic esters and alkyl bromides was developed, with cobalt-ligand combinations being assessed through high-throughput experimentation. The use of cobalt(II) sources with trans-N,N'-dimethylcyclohexane-1,2-diamine (DMCyDA, L-1) resulted in optimal yield and selectivity. The transformation allowed for diverse steric and electronic properties on the aryl boronate nucleophile as well as various levels of branching and synthetically valuable functionality on the electrophile, with radical trap experiments supporting the formation of electrophile-derived radicals during catalysis.

Summary: The influence of substituents on the aryl rings of thiourea on the structure of resulting compounds was investigated through the reaction of Pd(OAc)2 with N,N'-di(4-tolyl)thiourea and N,N'-bis(2-anisyl)thiourea. Bis-chelated complexes [Pd{& kappa;2(N, S)-(C(NAr)(S)(ArNH)}2] [Ar = C6H4Me-4 (1), C6H4(OMe)-2 (2)] were obtained in yields of 78% and 86%, respectively, when Pd(OAc)2 reacted with two equivalents of N,N & PRIME;-di(4-tolyl) thiourea and N,N'-bis(2-anisyl)thiourea in toluene at 60 degrees C. The catalytic efficacy of complexes 1 and 2 towards Suzuki-Miyaura reactions was investigated, and both exhibited fair to excellent catalytic ability at very low catalyst loading, with complex 2 showing relatively higher activity compared to complex 1.

Summary: This study reveals the formal Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reaction between ketones and arylboronates without the use of a directing group. A wide range of ketones can serve as electrophiles in this reaction, and the key lies in the specific reaction sequence that achieves unstrained C-C bond activation.

Summary: The story of C-C bond formation involves various reactions, with Suzuki-Miyaura reaction being one of the most outstanding ones. The focus is on the formation of catalytically active species, with preactivation potentially playing a role as the rate determining step in the overall reaction. Computational chemistry plays a key role in identifying the rate determining step and achieving milder conditions in experimental settings through predictive catalysis.

Summary: In this study, we report a new method for the gamma-arylation and gamma-lactonization of aliphatic acids, enabled by a L,X-type CarboxPyridone ligand catalyzed Pd(II) reaction. A wide range of gamma-arylated gamma-lactones can be efficiently synthesized in a single step, and the arylated lactones can be further converted into disubstituted tetrahydrofurans, which are prominent scaffolds in bioactive molecules.

Summary: A novel palladium-doped nanoporous carbon composite material synthesized via thermolysis of amorphous zeolitic imidazolate framework (aZIF) was utilized as an efficient catalyst for Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reactions of aryl bromides, achieving good to excellent yields in a short reaction time in aqueous solutions. The APC-750@Pd catalyst was characterized by various analysis techniques and showed recyclability with a 15% loss of catalytic efficiency after at least five cycles.

Summary: In this study, three Pd-Keggin-POMs compounds were successfully synthesized via a one-step assembly strategy, which exhibited well-defined structures and heterogeneous properties. These Pd-Keggin-POMs could efficiently catalyze the generation of benzothiadiazole, and compound 3 showed outstanding catalytic activities in Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reactions, making it one of the best catalysts reported so far. The obtained benzothiadiazoles were used as bio-probes for tracking lipid droplets in living cells, showing large Stokes shifts, low cytotoxicity, and good targeting. This research provides new insights into finding sustainable materials in life science, particularly in the development of novel bio-probe materials.

Summary: A series of organoradical boron reagents were successfully synthesized through the key step of C-H borylation for the first time. These reagents showed air stability and could be stored for several months in the solid state. They were fully investigated through various analysis techniques and found to be suitable for Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reactions while retaining the carbon radical center. Additionally, they exhibited fluorescent properties and can potentially be used for the synthesis of luminescent organic radicals and other functionalized open-shell materials.

Summary: A highly chemoselective, solvent-free mechanochemical strategy for the cross-coupling of amides by N-C bond activation has been reported. The method shows excellent selectivity, functional group tolerance, and can be applied for late-stage functionalization of complex molecules. This extends the repertoire of N-C bond interconversions to solid-state environmentally friendly mechanochemical methods.

Summary: Among cross coupling reactions, C-C cross coupling reaction has attracted much attention and progress in the past four decades. Pd, one of the transition metals, has shown the highest activity due to its unique features and reactivity. However, due to the high cost and self-deactivation of Pd-based homogeneous catalysts, researchers have turned their focus towards the development of Pd-based heterogeneous catalysts. Metal organic frameworks (MOFs) have been frequently used as host matrix for the deposition of Pd(II) salts and Pd nanoparticles. This review provides a design and development of Pd-based MOFs as heterogeneous catalysts for C-C cross coupling reactions.

Summary: In this study, the synthesis of functionalized styrenes via palladium-catalyzed Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reaction between aryl ketone derivatives and potassium vinyltrifluoroborate was reported. The use of pyridine-oxazoline ligand was essential for the cleavage of unstrained C-C bond. Various functional groups and biologically important molecules were well tolerated. The orthogonal Suzuki-Miyaura coupling demonstrated its synthetic practicability.
