A series of diphenylamino-substituted phenylene-(poly)ethynylenes were successfully synthesized by a combination of Sonogashira coupling and double elimination protocol of p-substituted sulfones. When UV-light was irradiated, the amino-substituted phenylene-(poly)ethynylene emitted strong luminescence. The emission underwent a large bathochromic shift in polar solvent because of stabilization of their charge-separated excited states. Analyses of fluorescence life times of aminoacetylenes revealed that radiationless process was suppressed in the polar solvent CH2Cl2, resulting in high quantum yields. (C) 2009 Elsevier Ltd. Summary: Three twin-carbazole-based hole-transporting materials were synthesized and employed in perovskite solar cells, showing different performance in power conversion efficiency. Among them, one HTM exhibited the best efficiency with lower synthetic cost compared to the commercial spiro-OMeTAD, demonstrating the potential of twin-carbazole moieties for enhanced charge transport properties in promising HTMs.

Summary: Double branch (DB) dyes with acetylenic bonds as isolation groups exhibit enhanced light-harvesting capabilities and improved photovoltaic performance. Connecting two dye molecules to form a DB dye leads to higher efficiencies in Dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs), with a diyne unit as the isolation group showing even greater potential for achieving better photovoltaic performance.

Effect of Side Chain Substituent Volume on Thermoelectric Properties of IDT-Based Conjugated Polymers

De-Xun Xie, Tong-Chao Liu, Jing Xiao, Jing-Kun Fang, Cheng-Jun Pan, Guang Shao

Summary: In this study, a p-type thermoelectric conjugated polymer based on indacenodithiophene and benzothiadiazole was designed and synthesized by replacing normal aliphatic side chains with conjugated aromatic benzene substituents. The bulky substituent introduced on the polymer hindered the efficient transporting of charge carriers, resulting in lower conductivity compared to the polymers with aliphatic side chains. This highlights the crucial role of side chain modification in the rational design of high-performance thermoelectric polymers.
