Summary: Hydrated lime is effective in forming water-resistant complexes with specific functional groups in bitumen, with ionic nature of bonds between hydrated lime and model asphalt moieties. Carboxylic acids are the preferential reaction sites between hydrated lime and bitumen moieties. The free energy of dissociation for hydrated lime with water as solvent is reported to be as high as +49.42 kcal/mol.

Summary: The study successfully developed QSPR regression models for predicting MIE of 60 flammable compounds using machine learning algorithms and a non-machine learning algorithm. The results showed that the ANN model is more reliable for MIE prediction of small datasets with lower machine learning bias due to the addition of an extra parameter.

Summary: This article discusses the challenges of selecting imaging and analysis tools in light-sheet microscopy from the perspective of biologists, microscope developers, imaging scientists, and computing experts. It aims to provide a contextual framework for basic computing concepts that can help cell and developmental biologists map different light-sheet data to existing computing environments and image analysis pipelines, while also reviewing current hardware and software commonly used in this field. The article also delves into potential future developments in tool selection for light-sheet image analysis.

Summary: Cellulose nanocrystals enable effective coating of carbon fibers, forming interfaces with carbon nanotubes and graphene nanoplatelets in composites. These interfaces alter the chemical composition and properties, leading to enhanced mechanical performance. The presence of nanotubes and nanoplatelets creates an interfacial region, increasing shear strength and interlaminar shear strength. The binding energy between nanotubes and carbon fiber sizing agent is higher, indicating the influence of chemical and physical interactions on the observed differences in mechanical properties.

Summary: Research computing plays a crucial role in academia, but access to computing resources varies among institutions. The BRICCs community, funded by the National Science Foundation, aims to bridge the technology gaps and promote the development of curriculum to cultivate a proficient research workforce. Through landscape study and community workshops, the project identifies key findings and outlines future steps to be taken by BRICCs, funding agencies, and the broader cyberinfrastructure community.

Summary: In this paper, the performance of two different architectures (GPU and IPU) in AI/ML workflows is compared, and it is found that they have similar performance and scalability. However, due to the differences in memory processing structures, IPUs are efficient with smaller batch sizes, while GPUs benefit from larger batch sizes.

Summary: Chiral transition metal complexes with privileged ligands are efficient catalysts for various asymmetric organic transformations. Transition metal complexes of C1-symmetric pyrrolidine-based ligands have been widely used in asymmetric organic reactions. However, a comprehensive review article on the transition metal complexes of chiral C1-symmetric pyrrolidine-based ligands derived from (L)-proline has not been published.
