Summary: In this study, a palladium-catalyzed deoxygenative transfer hydrogenation of ketones using B-2(OH)(4) as the sole additive was described. Deuterium labeling experiments with B-2(OD)(4) revealed that the incorporated protons exclusively originated from the diboron reagent. Spectroscopic evidence indicated the presence of a borate ester intermediate. This approach can be applied to deoxygenate various aromatic ketones.

Summary: The development of ligands and their roles in the catalytic cycle are crucial for achieving high efficiency and selectivity in nondirected transition-metal-catalyzed C-H functionalization. In this study, pyrazolopyridone (PzPyOH) ligands were developed for Pd-catalyzed perdeuteration and meta-selective alkenylation. The ligands facilitated C-H cleavage and enabled perdeuteration due to the incorporation of the 2-pyridone moiety, and the ligand properties allowed for selective functionalization of meta-positions in alkenylation.

Summary: The development of ligands and their role in catalytic cycles are essential for achieving high efficiency and selectivity in non-directed transition metal catalyzed C-H functionalization. In this study, a series of pyrazolopyridone (PzPyOH) ligands were designed for Pd-catalyzed perdeuteration and meta-selective alkenylation of arenes. The ligands incorporate a 2-pyridone moiety as an internal base, allowing for reversible C-H activation and enabling perdeuteration. The ligands also exhibit flexibility in binding to Pd, facilitating coordination with alkene coupling partners during alkenylation.

Summary: This work describes the total synthesis of jaspine B using highly diastereoselective Pd(II)-catalysed carbonylative cyclisation for the preparation of crucial intermediates. New conditions involving the use of pBQ/LiCl and Fe(CO)(5) were developed, and the application of a flow reactor in large-scale preparation of key lactones was demonstrated.

Summary: Selective reduction of nitro-containing arenes and heteroarenes was achieved using inexpensive NaBH4 as a hydrogen source and a newly developed Ni@N-C catalyst. The catalyst was obtained via a simple carbon coating process without the need for an external carbon source. A wide variety of nitro derivatives, including pharmaceutical molecules, were successfully reduced to the corresponding amines in yields ranging from 45% to 99%. The reactivity and selectivity of the nitro reduction were further enhanced by a continuous flow reaction system, resulting in gram-scale production of Osimertinib intermediate without any nickel metal contamination or silica gel chromatography purification.

Summary: This study introduces a general protocol for the selective hydrogenation and deuteration of alkenes, utilizing a specific nickel-graphitic shell-based core-shell-structured catalyst to achieve high yields of corresponding alkanes and deuterium-labeled alkanes at ambient conditions. The synthetic utility and practicability of this Ni-based hydrogenation protocol is demonstrated through gram-scale reactions and efficient catalyst recycling experiments.

Summary: Significant progress has been made in stabilizing and functionalizing gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) using thiols and imidazolylidene N-heterocyclic carbene-capping ligands. This study introduces mesoionic carbene (MIC) ligands based on the 1,2,3-triazol-5-ylidene scaffold, which enables the efficient preparation of highly stable AuNPs through a simple one-pot protocol. The size of the AuNPs can be controlled by adjusting the Au/ligand ratio and the nature of the triazolium salts, facilitated by the easy synthesis of MIC precursors through click chemistry. Characterization using C-13 solid-state NMR and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy confirms the presence of MICs exclusively on the surface of Au(0) nanoparticles.

Summary: In this work, an air-stable and easily accessible copper(I) complex was developed as a catalyst for the deuteration of mono-substituted alkynes. The reactions were conducted in common solvents and in the presence of air, resulting in excellent incorporation of deuterium into various functionalized alkynes.

Summary: We demonstrate visible-light-mediated carbon-heteroatom cross-coupling reactions using a photoactive Ni(II) precatalyst. The activation of this precatalyst involves an initial intraligand charge transfer event triggered by visible light irradiation. Additionally, a porous, recyclable organic polymer for heterogeneous nickel catalysis of cross-coupling reactions is obtained through ligand polymerization.

Summary: Palladium complexes exhibit remarkable catalytic activity in alkyne chemistry, allowing for the assembly of structurally diverse organic functional molecules from readily available feedstocks. The N-heterocyclic carbene-palladium catalytic system is considered one of the most efficient and precise synthetic methodologies due to its strong sigma-donating and weaker pi-accepting abilities.

Summary: Post-consumer plastic waste has prompted the development of deconstruction methods to recover valuable substances, but depolymerization of highly crystalline engineering thermoplastics remains challenging. In this study, the authors demonstrate the electrochemical depolymerization of polyoxymethylene into repolymerizable monomer under ambient conditions. Through various experiments, they uncover the heterogeneous electro-mediated acid depolymerization mechanism and the dual role of the co-solvent HFIP. This research highlights the potential of electromediated depolymerization in sustainable chemistry by merging renewable energy and circular plastic economy concepts.

Summary: Chiral transition metal complexes with privileged ligands are efficient catalysts for various asymmetric organic transformations. Transition metal complexes of C1-symmetric pyrrolidine-based ligands have been widely used in asymmetric organic reactions. However, a comprehensive review article on the transition metal complexes of chiral C1-symmetric pyrrolidine-based ligands derived from (L)-proline has not been published.
