Summary: Finafloxacin demonstrates optimal antibacterial activity in low pH environments, offering a therapeutic advantage over traditional antibiotics in treating bacterial infections associated with acidic foci. However, it does not reduce the level of bacterial colonization in tissues compared to doxycycline or ciprofloxacin. Despite this, treatment with finafloxacin shows a reduction in tissue damage associated with C. burnetii infection.

Summary: There was no significant difference in the risk of aortic aneurysm and aortic dissection (AA/AD) between patients who were administered oral fluoroquinolone (FQ) and those who were administered third-generation cephalosporins (3GC). The study findings suggest that the use of FQ should not be deterred when clinically indicated.

Summary: In this study, we designed, synthesized, and evaluated two novel photocages based on the o-nitrobenzyl chemotype and carbazole ring system. The photochemical properties and decaging efficiencies of these new photocages were investigated and compared to the existing nitrodibenzofuran (NDBF) cage. The results showed that one of the new photocages exhibited significantly higher decaging efficiency than the NDBF cage. Additionally, the water solubility of one of the photocages was improved through modification, which is important for applications in aqueous conditions.

Summary: The study found that the reaction rate of Fe(VI) with fluoroquinolone antibiotics is strongly dependent on pH, reaching its maximum at around pH 6.5. In alkaline solution, high-valent iron species were identified as the major reactive species, while hydroxyl radicals were generated through Fenton or Fenton-like processes in acidic conditions with limited contribution.

Summary: A multifunctional magnetic plasmonic photocatalyst was prepared through a green and efficient process. It consisted of magnetic mesoporous anatase titanium dioxide (Fe3O4@mTiO2), Ag nanoparticles (Ag NPs), and graphene oxide (GO). The catalyst showed adsorption, surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) monitoring, and photodegradation capabilities for fluoroquinolone antibiotics (FQs). The catalyst exhibited improved degradation rates and recyclability compared to other materials, making it a potential solution for the removal and monitoring of residual FQs in environmental water.

Summary: This study investigated the adsorption behavior of two fluoroquinolone antibiotics on different aggregation fractions separated from the sediment of Taihu Lake. The results showed that the adsorption of both antibiotics fitted the Freundlich model, regardless of sediment aggregation size. The adsorption of the antibiotics was dependent on the size of sediment aggregation fractions, with macroaggregation exhibiting the strongest capacity. The adsorption mechanism involved a combination of chemical and physical adsorptions, with chemical adsorption being the dominant process.

Summary: This paper studied the effects of two fluoroquinolone antibiotics on Microcystis aeruginosa and found that these antibiotics inhibit the growth of Microcystis aeruginosa and increase its toxin production capacity. This is of great significance for the ecological risk assessment of antibiotics in the water environment.

Summary: This study investigated the ecotoxicological effects, biodegradation, and multiple metabolic pathways of enrofloxacin (ENR) by ryegrass, identifying key metabolic genes and proposing a biodegradation pathway. Results showed high removal rates of ENR by biodegradation and revealed the key functional genes involved in the degradation process. This study contributes to the understanding of antibiotic biodegradation in plants and highlights the potential of ryegrass in treating ENR-polluted water.

Summary: N-modified sludge-derived biochar (N-SDBC) was prepared and used for the activation of peroxydisulfate (PDS) to degrade fluoroquinolone antibiotics (FQs). Seven commonly used FQs were effectively degraded by N-SDBC/PDS, and the dominant reactive species were identified as O-1(2), while SO4 center dot- and (OH)-O-center dot played minor roles. Graphite-N and Fe-0 on the surface of N-SDBC were identified as the main active sites for PDS activation. The application in surface water and wastewater samples demonstrated the efficiency of N-SDBC/PDS for FQs removal.
