Summary: Carboxypeptidases are enzymes that cleave the peptide bond of C-terminal amino acids. This study demonstrates that the addition of 6-aminoquinoline-N-hydroxysuccinimidyl carbamate (AQC) as an N-blocking group greatly enhances substrate hydrolysis with carboxypeptidase. The study also highlights the resistance of D-amino acids within peptides to enzymatic hydrolysis by Carboxypeptidase Y, which could be advantageous for screening low abundance peptide stereoisomers.

Summary: In this article, we discuss the boron-catalyzed alpha-functionalizations of carboxylic acids developed in our group, including five reaction types. The reversible boron carboxylate formation plays a crucial role in the acidification of alpha-protons and enolization using mild organic bases, enabling chemoselective and asymmetric bond formations of carboxylic acids. We summarize the ligand effects on reactivity and stereoselectivity, substrate scopes, and mechanistic insights.

Summary: This study highlights the significant impact of relative stereochemistry on the mechanical properties of epimer compounds, showing that crystals with different stereochemistry exhibit varying levels of hardness, elastic modulus, and fracture toughness. The brittle crystals have higher values for hardness and elastic moduli compared to the ductile ones due to distinct crystal structural features. Indentation fracture toughness values for the (2'S) crystals are higher than typical values for molecular crystals, attributed to the corrugated nature of their crystal packing.

Summary: The asymmetric aldol reactions between ester-derived chiral auxiliary and bidentate aromatic aldehydes have been investigated, leading to the synthesis of syn-aldol products with high diastereoselectivity and isolated yields. The enantiomers of optically active hydroxy carboxylic acids were obtained through the mild saponification of the chiral auxiliary.

Summary: The addition of boron trifluoride etherate to allenic ketones resulted in the isolation of isolated boron difluoride enolates, whose crystal structure has been determined. The migration of (Z)-beta-difluoroboryloxy ether derivatives from C-1 to C-10 has been observed, leading to rearranged phenol derivatives that can be further functionalized into C-2 alkyl-chromenones. Interestingly, the isolated boron enolates show significant anticancer properties.

Summary: Enzymatic reactions in Nature have exceptional stereoselection due to ordered transition states. Inspired by this, synthetic chemists have designed bifunctional ligands that activate carbonyl substrates via organocatalysis, accelerating the rate and facilitating stereoselectivity of bond formation. This review provides an overview of recent developments in this area.

Summary: The demand for lithium has increased significantly in the past decade due to its usage as a mainstream battery for electric vehicles and electronic devices. Lithium ion-sieve technology (LIS) has emerged as a promising method for extracting lithium from various sources, offering advantages such as low energy consumption, high uptake capacity, environmental friendliness, and superior lithium selectivity. This review paper critically examines recent developments in lithium extraction and recovery using LIS adsorbents and membranes from aqueous solutions, and highlights the stability challenges encountered with LIS adsorbents.

Summary: The imbalance between production and clearance of Aβ peptides is a crucial step in AD pathogenesis, making Aβ a promising therapeutic target. Research has shown that a high-affinity antibody targeting Aβ peptides with a pyroglutamate residue at amino acid position 3 can significantly reduce amyloid burden in mouse brains. Furthermore, combining this antibody treatment with chronic BACE1 inhibitor treatment leads to significant clearance of pre-existing amyloid deposits in the brain without inducing microhemorrhages or other histopathological findings.

Summary: This study utilized anodization as a novel approach to immobilize lithium ions on a titanium surface and evaluated the changes in surface characteristics. The results showed that the surface charge characteristics were enhanced on the 3V-anodized surface, leading to increased adsorption of extracellular matrix proteins and improved attachment of osteoblast cells. This study suggests that anodization could be an effective method to promote osseointegration by modifying the surface charge characteristics and allowing for enhanced biological adhesion.

Summary: In this study, a low-metal iron-supported catalyst (Fe20/NC-Mg) was reported for the efficient synthesis of quinoxaline compounds, using water as a solvent and without additional bases. The synergistic effect of FeNx site and Mg (OH)2 nanorods in the catalyst played a key role in achieving high yields (82-91%) in 16 examples. The gram-level synthesis and reusability of the catalysts after four cycles demonstrated its industrial application potential.
