Summary: This study examined the death and disability outcomes of trauma patients in Cameroon over a 6-month period after hospital discharge. The results showed significant morbidity and mortality, particularly for orthopaedic and neurologic injuries. Factors such as age, education, injury severity, and neurological injuries were associated with postdischarge disability and mortality.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of capecitabine treatment on fecal levels of SCFA and BCFA in colorectal cancer patients. The results showed a significant decrease in valerate and caproate levels during treatment, and a association between baseline iso-butyrate levels and tumor response. Nutritional status, physical performance, and chemotherapy-induced toxicity were not significantly associated with SCFA or BCFA.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the tolerability and efficacy of adjuvant CAPOX therapy in elderly patients compared to young patients. The results showed that adjuvant CAPOX therapy was well-tolerated in elderly Japanese patients, and the prognosis of elderly patients with stage III CRC was similar to that of their younger counterparts. Therefore, advanced age may not be a contraindication for adjuvant chemotherapy in CRC.

Summary: In this study, CAP and PGZ were co-encapsulated in TB nanoparticles and evaluated for their cytotoxic and apoptotic effects on colorectal cancer cells and human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs). The nanoparticles showed synergistic effects in inducing apoptosis in all tested cells, suggesting their potential as a targeted combinational therapy for colorectal cancer.

Summary: This study revealed that patients prefer in-person visits for follow-up care, trust specialist providers more than primary care providers, and desire improved psychosocial support during surveillance. The findings suggest that telemedicine may not be the preferred option for traditional in-office follow-up for GI cancer surveillance, and efforts to enhance surveillance should focus on providing more personalized care and increased psychosocial support for patients.

Summary: Real-world studies suggest that SOF/DCV is an effective treatment option for HCV, with acceptable sustained virological response. However, longer treatment duration and increased likelihood of adverse effects limit its use, especially in genotype (GT)-3 patients. New pan-genotypic combinations may provide better treatment options in resource limited settings, and the introduction of generics for these drugs may eliminate the need for SOF/DCV in the near future.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the factors associated with left ventricular (LV) geometry in patients with heart failure and reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF), particularly focusing on oxidative stress and glycemic status. The results showed a significant correlation between total antioxidant capacity (TAC) and LV geometry, with higher TAC levels observed in patients with normal LV geometry and concentric hypertrophy. Additionally, prediabetes and diabetes were significantly associated with eccentric hypertrophy.
