Summary: Organochromium(III) species are versatile nucleophiles used in complex molecule synthesis due to their high tolerance of functional groups and chemoselectivity for aldehydes. Traditional methods of carbonyl addition reactions using organochromium(III) species require stoichiometric chromium(II) salts or catalytic chromium salts and stoichiometric reductants. Recent alternative methods involve organoradical formation from readily available starting materials and trapping the radical with stoichiometric or catalytic chromium(II) salts. These methods have the potential to develop sustainable chemical processes.

Summary: The Julia-Kocienski olefination, a coupling reaction between a carbonyl component and a sulfone partner, has become an important tool in the synthetic toolbox for preparing various organic compounds. Recent studies have focused on the synthesis of trisubstituted alkenes and understanding their stereoselectivity. This review provides a comprehensive overview of the progress and developments in the application of Julia-Kocienski olefination for the synthesis of trisubstituted alkenes, which are valuable precursors for natural products, analogs, and biologically important compounds. The review also discusses key methodologies, optimal conditions, stereoselectivities, and new modifications and approaches.

Summary: Valuable indole derivatives were synthesized via the sequential 1,2-addition/nucleophilic substitution of indolyl-3-carbaldehydes. Microflow technology was used to suppress undesired reactions caused by unstable intermediates, leading to higher yields and reproducibility. The study provides a rapid and efficient method for the synthesis of structurally diverse indole derivatives.

Summary: The relocalization of charge at interfaces between metals and metal oxides can have significant implications for catalytic reactions. In this study, the application of nanoscale interfaces comprising zinc oxide-nickel oxide-nickel (ZnO-NiO-Ni) for the oxidative cleavage of carbon-carbon (C-C) multiple bonds was investigated. The results showed that the heterostructure between ZnO-NiO-Ni and their synergistic cooperation played a crucial role in achieving the desired oxidation reaction.

Summary: This study reported a metal-free synthesis method for producing methylenecyclobutane containing tetrasubstituted alkenyl nitriles using a strain-release driven addition reaction of [1.1.1]propellane. The protocol could be scaled up to gram quantities and the resulting alkenyl nitriles were capable of undergoing various derivatization reactions, offering a wide range of possible transformation reactions.

Summary: This study reports the solvent-free and ambient temperature chemoselective hydroboration of aldehydes and ketones using platinum complexes. The corresponding boronate esters were obtained in high yield. The platinum complexes also proved to be effective catalysts in the reductive amination reaction, showing excellent functional group tolerance.

Summary: This research reports a visible-light-driven radical 1,3-selenosulfonylation of vinyldiazo compounds with selenosulfonates, yielding various gamma-seleno allylic sulfones. The reaction was carried out at room temperature in an open flask using ethyl acetate as the solvent without the need for any photocatalysts or additives. Synthetic applications of the resulting products were demonstrated through deselenization, reduction, bromination, and allylation.

Summary: This study developed a novel antibacterial, self-healing hydrogel made from aldehyde-carrageenan. The hydrogel was synthesized by oxidizing carrageenan and adding dopamine and zinc ions. The hydrogel showed excellent properties, including rapid recovery, reduced weight loss, antibacterial effects against E. coli, and enhanced collagen secretion and cell attachment. The hybrid hydrogel has great potential for wound healing applications.

Summary: This study successfully achieved highly enantioselective silylation of 3-substituted 2H-azirines using a copper-catalyzed reaction with a silyl boronic ester as a latent silicon nucleophile. The resulting C-silylated, unprotected (N-H) aziridines were obtained in high yields and with excellent enantioselectivities, and they can be further converted into valuable compounds without significant loss of enantiomeric excess.

Summary: Two beta-formylBODIPYs show strong daylight excitable fluorescence and highly selective responses to cyanide anion. Surprisingly, cyanide anion undergoes nucleophilic addition to the alpha-position of the BODIPY core instead of the expected formyl moiety, causing interruption of pi-conjugation and significant blue-shift of absorption maxima.
