Summary: An atom-economical approach for the synthesis of arylquinones was achieved using an inexpensive Fe-I-2-(NH4)(2)S2O8 system. The direct oxidative C-C dehydrogenative coupling reaction of quinones/hydroquinones with electron-rich arenes resulted in high yields (60-89%) of several arylated quinones. The method demonstrated broad substrate scope, simplicity, practicality, and good functional group tolerance.

Summary: Enantioselective sulfa-Michael additions to alpha,beta-unsaturated diazocarbonyl compounds have been developed using quinine-derived squaramide as the catalyst. This method allows the formation of C-S bonds with high stereoselectivity for alkyl and aryl thiols. The synthesis of 22 examples showed enantiomeric ratios up to 97:3 and reaction yields up to 94%. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations were used to determine the mechanism and origins of enantioselectivity.

Summary: A facile methodology for the synthesis of isoindolinones containing the N,S-acetal framework was demonstrated using a Bronsted acid catalyst and a three-component reaction. The reaction involved the addition of thioacid to in situ-generated aldimine followed by lactamization, resulting in the formation of one C-S bond and two C-N bonds under easily controlled and ambient reaction conditions. Various substituted isoindolinones were synthesized with high yields of up to 99%. The importance of this methodology was further justified by gram-scale synthesis and demonstration of interesting synthetic transformations.

Summary: Stormwater exposure can lead to acute mortality of coho salmon, with 6PPD-quinone identified as the primary toxicant. Analysis of commercial standards of 6PPDQ revealed a high bias in prior reporting. This study re-confirmed toxicity estimates using a commercial standard and developed a quantification method. The results showed higher responses with the commercial standard and a significantly lower LC50 value compared to previous reports, highlighting the substantial lethality of 6PPD-Q.

Summary: The research focuses on the reaction of vindoline with a selection of electrophiles to generate various adducts, with conditions optimized to produce different types of adducts. Among the bis-adducts, there are three unseparable species and a high energy barrier between them, making interconversion difficult. These molecules exhibit a back-and-forth conrotatory motion, known as the windshield wiper effect, on the NMR chemical shift time scale.

Summary: A green and scalable synthesis method for polymeric quinone composites with graphene has been developed, utilizing cellulose nanocrystals to improve the electrochemical energy storage performance. This method avoids critical materials, uses low-cost feedstocks, and achieves stable aqueous graphene dispersions. The composite material showed high storage metrics and retained over 70% performance after 1000 charge/discharge cycles.

Summary: (English Summary:)
The study revealed that modularly designed organocatalysts (MDOs) can facilitate the domino Michael/Michael reaction with switchable enamine and iminium catalytic modes. By utilizing appropriate combinations of precatalyst modules and reaction conditions, both catalytic modes can be individually switched on and off. Under optimized conditions with both enamine and iminium catalysis modes activated, the desired domino reaction products can be obtained with good yields and stereoselectivities.

Summary: Direct functionalization of C(sp(3))-H bonds is a useful method for obtaining a variety of heteroarene derivatives. However, its application is limited by the need for catalysts or oxidants. In this study, a mild and eco-friendly photochemical protocol was developed for decarbonylative C-H alkylation reactions using quinoxalin-2(1H)-ones and aliphatic aldehydes with air as the oxidant at room temperature. These catalyst- and oxidant-free reactions exhibited good functional group tolerance and a wide substrate scope.
