Synthesis of chiral pyridyl alcohols using a two-step catalytic approach

Chiral pyridyl alcohols have been prepared by developing a two-step approach that uses the asymmetric cyanation of aldehydes to give cyanohydrins and subsequent [2+2+2]-cyclotrimerization reaction with acetylene.
