Summary: An efficient protocol using the TMSOTf/HMDS system for the intermolecular cyclization of chalcones under MW irradiation conditions has been developed. This method provides a facile approach to synthesize 2,4,6-triaryl or 3-benzyl-2,4,6-triarylpyridines in good to excellent yields. Interestingly, a new core structure of 2,6-diazabicyclo[2.2.2]oct-2-ene was obtained by changing the acid additive to Sn(OTf)(2), which was confirmed by X-ray single-crystal diffraction analysis.

Summary: We report a metal-free amination reaction using 1-(3,3,3-trifluoro-2-oxopropyl)pyridin-1-ium bromide and alpha,beta-unsaturated carbonyl compounds with NH4OAc or amines. The reaction yields a series of 3-trifluoromethyl aniline derivatives as major products. The reaction proceeds through a cascade process involving 1,4-Michael addition and intramolecular addition to form a dienone intermediate.

Summary: The reaction of benzimidazolone derivatives, or their thio- or aza-counterparts, with an isocyanide in the presence of acetone unexpectedly gave rise to novel tricyclic benzodiazepine derivatives in good yield. However, benzimidazole starting substrates bearing an electron-withdrawing group resulted in dihydroquinoxaline derivatives instead. The use of deuterated acetone instead of acetone significantly affected yield and reactivity in the four-component reaction but not in the three-component reaction.

Summary: This article demonstrates that quantum electrodynamic (QED) effects can significantly enhance the rate of electron transfer (ET) without the use of cavities. By incorporating the effect of infinite one-photon states into Marcus theory and introducing the concept of electron transfer overlap, the study provides new insights into the involvement of cavity-free QED effects in ET reactions.

Summary: In this review, catalyzed multicomponent reactions (MCRs) and the importance of catalysis combined with key parameters are comprehensively described. Catalysis not only improves yields and shortens reaction times, but it also plays a vital role in achieving greener protocols and advancing the MCR field of research. Key parameters such as temperature, catalyst amounts, and reagent quantities are analyzed. The role of solvents, often overlooked in MCRs, and their combined effects with catalysis are critically discussed. The review also presents and discusses stereocontrolled MCRs, which are rarely observed without the presence of a catalytic system. Perspectives on the use of catalytic systems for improved and greener MCRs are presented.

Summary: An efficient and environmentally benign one-pot condensation reaction was achieved using 1,4-diazabicyclo[2-2-2]octane supported on Amberlyst-15 as a novel catalyst. The reaction involved cyclic diketones, aldehydes, and naphthols, resulting in the synthesis of various benzoxanthenones with good to excellent yields. The advantages of this reaction include the use of a heterogeneous catalyst, solventless conditions, atom-economical methodology, and low E-factor values. Seventeen xanthene derivatives, including two novel molecules, were synthesized and characterized. Aromatic aldehydes with electron-withdrawing groups showed excellent yields, and aliphatic aldehydes also gave appreciable results. The catalyst exhibited full recyclability and could be reused up to six times.
