Summary: This study used genetic analysis of 274 F1 progeny to identify major quantitative trait loci (QTLs) associated with flesh color, skin color, and anthocyanin content in sweet potato. The results showed significant positive correlations among these traits and high heritability. The findings confirm the importance of this study in establishing a marker-assisted breeding program for sweet potato improvement.

Summary: Powdery mildew caused by Podosphaera xanthii is a major problem in Gerbera production, but the genetics underlying resistance to this disease are largely unknown. This study constructed a genome-wide genetic linkage map and identified quantitative trait loci (QTL) and molecular markers for powdery mildew resistance in Gerbera. The availability of this map and the newly discovered QTL and markers will facilitate the improvement of Gerbera for resistance to powdery mildew.

Summary: This study evaluated the genetic diversity and population structure of 135 autotetraploid potatoes using SLAF-seq methods. Analysis of 3,397,137 high-quality SNPs revealed that the classification of these potatoes based on SNP profiles did not correlate with their geographical origins. Furthermore, 71 PARMS-SNP markers were successfully used to analyze 190 autotetraploid potato varieties. Overall, these novel SNP markers provide a solid foundation for potato genetic diversity analysis, DUS testing, and plant variety protection.

Summary: A LD-based algorithm is proposed to allocate unassigned SNPs to chromosome regions from sparse genetic maps, with an average proportion of over 94% SNP accuracy in placing them to chromosomes in sugarcane, wheat, and barley. This approach can improve genome-wide association studies and genomic prediction in crop species with fragmented and incomplete genome assemblies, benefiting genomic-assisted breeding for orphan crops.

Summary: This study focused on mapping the quantitative trait locus (QTL) of resistance to A. flavus infection in the peanut variety J11. Six novel resistant QTLs were identified on chromosomes A05, A08, B01, B03, and B10, with phenotypic variances explained ranging from 5.03% to 10.87%. The combination of these QTLs significantly improved resistance to A. flavus infection, providing insights into the genetic basis of resistance and potential for further improvement in peanuts.

Summary: This study constructed two F-2 populations using the DM-resistant accession PI 442177 and mapped QTLs conferring DM resistance. A high-density genetic map was generated and a major QTL DM9.1 was consistently detected at different growth stages. QTL-seq analysis validated the presence of DM9.1 and a KASP marker co-segregating with DM9.1 was successfully developed, providing valuable information for DM-resistant gene cloning and melon DM-resistant breeding programs.
