Summary: Revisional gastric bypass surgery for failed gastric banding patients showed higher complication rates compared to primary RYGB. Despite a greater postoperative weight increase in the revisional group at 12-month follow-up, the difference was not statistically significant. Changes in weight and BMI did not differ significantly between the two groups.

Summary: A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted to evaluate various revisional techniques for addressing weight regain and inadequate weight loss after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass. The results showed that endoscopic procedures resulted in short-term weight loss, while surgical revision techniques were more successful in achieving long-term weight loss, albeit with higher complication rates.

Summary: This study compared the short- and medium-term outcomes of SG and RYGB after failure of primary GB. In propensity score matching analysis, SG group had significantly shorter operative time and lower post-operative complications. Weight loss and comorbidities at 2 years follow-up were similar between the two groups, but SG had a significantly lower rate of adverse events.

Summary: This study evaluated the short-term outcomes of various revisional bariatric surgeries after failed primary sleeve gastrectomy. Results showed that biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch (BPD/DS) resulted in the largest weight loss, while Roux en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) and BPD/DS had similar rates of major complications. Overall, revisional procedures offer further weight loss for patients with failed primary SG.

Summary: This study retrospectively analyzed OAGB patients undergoing revision for severe PEM from 2015 to 2021, showing that revisional surgery for severe PEM after OAGB is feasible and safe after nutritional optimization. Patients experienced improved BMI and albumin levels post-revision, especially with complete resolution seen after conversion to RYGB or reversal to normal anatomy.

Summary: The study evaluated the safety and effectiveness of conversion to OAGB after failed LAGB, showing that OAGB is a safe and effective option with satisfactory postoperative morbidity and weight loss outcomes. Both synchronous OAGB and two-step revisional OAGB guarantee satisfying results in terms of postoperative morbidity and weight loss outcomes.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the use of opioids in patients with obesity who underwent bariatric surgery versus those who underwent intensive lifestyle modification. The results showed that patients who underwent bariatric surgery had a higher proportion of opioid users and a larger total opioid dose, especially in those who received additional surgery during follow-up.

Summary: This study compared medium-term outcomes of primary and revisional bariatric procedures, finding that revisional surgeries may have better outcomes in improving comorbidities. While weight loss outcomes may be inferior in revisional surgeries, they are still safe and effective choices for this difficult set of patients.

Summary: This study compared the short-term outcomes of primary and revisional bariatric surgeries. The results showed that primary surgeries were associated with better weight loss outcomes and resolution of obesity-related comorbidities compared to revisional surgeries. Revisional RYGB resulted in more weight loss than revisional SG. Revisional surgeries were effective and safe in treating obesity and related comorbidities after a failed AGB.

Summary: This study compared the effect of banded and non-banded Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) on long-term weight loss results and comorbidities. The results showed that banded RYGB had superior weight loss compared to non-banded RYGB, while there was no significant difference in the effect on comorbidity improvement or remission. Therefore, performing banded RYGB is recommended due to the similar complication rates and significantly greater weight loss.

Summary: Laparoscopy during the COVID-19 pandemic may pose a potential risk of SARS-CoV-2 transmission, although the risk is considered very low. Due to the widely known benefits of laparoscopy compared to the minimal risk, there is no need to replace it with laparotomy for COVID-19 infection. Additional safety measures are recommended to avoid potential small risk of viral transmission.

Summary: This study compared the outcomes of two different surgical techniques for revisional bariatric surgery in patients with insufficient weight loss or weight regain due to an enlarged pouch. Resizing the pouch led to additional weight loss, and both techniques showed comparable weight loss outcomes. The SGP technique may be preferable based on average surgical costs.

Summary: The identification of flow patterns within the heart is important for understanding cardiovascular diseases. Four-dimensional flow cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging (4D flow CMR) is a novel tool that provides comprehensive assessment of flow through encoding velocity in all 3 directions. However, the analysis of 4D flow data is still complex and requires accurate analysis tools.

Summary: This study compared cardiovascular magnetic resonance-derived left ventricular function, strain, and infarct size characteristics in patients with transient ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (TSTEMI), ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), and non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI). The results showed that TSTEMI patients had better LV function and smaller infarct size compared to STEMI patients, and their characteristics were more similar to NSTEMI patients.

Summary: This study compared the performance of two-dimensional echocardiography (2DE), contrast-2DE and real-time three-dimensional echocardiography (RT-3DE) in the diagnosis of left ventricular apical thrombus (LVAT). The results showed that RT-3DE was more sensitive and specific than 2DE and contrast-2DE in diagnosing LVAT, with higher diagnostic accuracy.

Summary: The European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging Scientific Initiatives Committee conducted a global survey to evaluate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the mental well-being of cardiac imaging specialists. The survey results showed that more than half of the specialists experienced anxiety, one-third felt melancholic, and a quarter increased their alcohol intake. More than half reported difficulties in sleeping and 44% considered quitting their job.

Summary: In this study, the researchers used 4D flow cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) to investigate the differences in left ventricular (LV) flow between chronic myocardial infarction (MI) patients with and without left ventricular thrombus (LVT), as well as healthy controls. They found that MI patients with LVT had altered LV flow components, irregular vorticity vector fields, and changes in diastolic vortex ring geometric properties compared to those without LVT. These findings suggest potential links between global LV flow characteristics and LVT formation.

Summary: In this study, CPAP adherence was evaluated in obese patients with newly diagnosed obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) who underwent bariatric surgery. The results showed that inadequate CPAP adherence was higher in these patients compared to those with pre-existing OSA. Although there were no significant differences in cardiopulmonary complications and ICU admissions between the two groups, strategies to improve CPAP adherence may be valuable in newly diagnosed OSA patients undergoing bariatric surgery.

Summary: According to a global survey conducted by EACVI, echocardiography remains the most frequently used imaging modality for the evaluation of the right heart, while the use of other imaging techniques, particularly CMR, is on the rise. The majority of survey participants include assessment of right ventricle size and function in echocardiographic reports, but only half routinely include volumetric and ejection fraction assessments in CMR reports.

Summary: This study assesses the relationship between different left atrial (LA) strain methods and atrial fibrillation (AF) recurrence, comparing LA feature tracking (FT) strain with novel rapid LA strain approaches. The results show that both LA rapid strain and LA FT strain are associated with arrhythmia recurrence after ablation in AF patients. Therefore, LA rapid strain can be a convenient and reproducible alternative for assessing LA function in clinical practice.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between symptom-to-reperfusion time and transmural infarct extent and strain parameters in ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) patients. The results showed that shorter reperfusion time was associated with smaller infarct extent and better left ventricular strain. The study also found a close link between infarct transmurality and residual left ventricular strain.
