Summary: This paper experimentally investigates the influence of stirrup locks on the post-peak behaviour of reinforced concrete columns and finds that the design of stirrup locks significantly affects the robustness of the columns. The current regulations and recommendations do not sufficiently address this issue.

Summary: This article investigates the susceptibility of concrete to fire-induced explosive spalling, focusing on the influence of the physical and chemical properties of hardened cement paste. Experimental tests were conducted to verify three hypotheses regarding the contribution of specific characteristics to the spalling propensity of concrete. The evaluation of the experiments identified the main mechanisms causing explosive spalling.

Summary: The distortion behavior of a complex automotive component was investigated in this study, and it was found that the part geometry played a dominant role in influencing the distortion. The study also discussed the reasons why the part geometry acted as an important carrier of distortion potential. Furthermore, specific modifications of the part geometry were explored to reduce distortion, utilizing barlike samples.

Summary: Global value chains are undergoing significant restructuring due to digitization. This article focuses on the impact of digitization in the German footwear sector, particularly on governance and relationships within the value chain. Sports goods manufacturers and online platforms are identified as central players due to high levels of digitization in manufacturing, communication, and distribution processes.

Summary: The fatigue behavior of bolted joints is critically important and can lead to failure due to the high notch effect. This study focuses on investigating the influence of the surface system, including coating and lubricant, on the fatigue life of bolted joints. Experimental investigations and material analysis methods were used to evaluate an exemplary basecoat and various lubricant systems. A reproducible method for determining crack initiation and propagation was developed for assessing the lubricant systems.

Summary: This study models the hardness profile of shear-cut electrical steel sheets using finite-element simulations. Elastic-plastic material properties are obtained through spherical nanoindentation testing, and representative stress-strain values are determined based on hardness. True stress-strain curves for different material models are determined depending on hardness. The finite-element simulation shows good agreement with experimental data and confirms the influence of shear cutting on mechanical material behavior.

Summary: Sandwich panels are widely used in industrial and commercial construction as building envelopes, as well as in cold storage rooms. The current design concept is mainly based on stress verification and lacks consideration of the geometric and structural imperfections, as well as the actual load-bearing capacity of the panels.

Summary: The study demonstrates that ZrC ceramics can be an attractive substitute for tungsten and molybdenum in the field of refractory materials and heating elements. The heating behavior and applicability of ZrC materials as an electrical heating element were investigated, with examinations showing no significant material changes under high temperatures.

Summary: The particulates from recycled construction material tend to generate dust due to wide particle size distribution, which is often an unintended side effect released in gaseous environment, resulting in a loss of resources and negative impacts on people and the environment. In this study, various mineral materials with different size distribution but identical moisture content were investigated for their tendency to generate dust.

Summary: The paper investigates the impact of cold rolling and ageing on the microstructure and mechanical properties of 2507 duplex stainless steel. It is found that equiaxed austenite can be obtained by cold rolling and ageing at different temperatures. Lowering the ageing temperature leads to a finer structure. The presence of the sigma phase results in higher strength but lower ductility.

Summary: Due to the need for energy saving, lightweight constructions are becoming increasingly important. Industries such as aerospace and automotive engineering are prioritizing the use of composite materials. However, difficulties in manufacturing, especially in cutting, are hindering the full potential of these materials. This study presents machining tests on a typical composite material made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic and aluminum, comparing the use of minimal quantity lubrication with dry machining. The results show that minimal quantity lubrication significantly improves the quality of the machining process.

Summary: Microbial contaminations in floor constructions are caused by moisture. The study found that bacteria quickly disappear in cement-bound polystyrol granulate (EPS), while they can survive or even proliferate in synthetic mineral fibers (SMF). The results indicate that bacterial densities are not suitable criteria for determining the need for dismantling floor constructions after damage with sewage water in cement-bound EPS.

Summary: Plasma nitriding offers great potential for improving the wear properties of austenitic steels, with the influence of material condition and cold-forming induced defect structures being significant factors in the nitriding result and corrosion behavior. The titanium stabilization plays a role in inhibiting or promoting nitrogen diffusion, depending on the presence of deformation induced martensite or slip bands in lower nitriding temperatures.

Summary: The article traces the confrontation of two lines within industrial sociology of the 1970s and 80s and assesses the causes of a paradigm shift. The focus shifted towards applying scientific knowledge constructively into the work process and towards individual thinking. Little consideration is given to the reform program Humanization of Working Life and its research funding. This paper argues that the program was an important practical step towards the orientation of codetermination and applied science as a research perspective.
