Summary: The study found that the use of antihypertensive medication was associated with decreased cancer-specific mortality in colorectal cancer patients, with ACE inhibitors, beta-blockers, and thiazide diuretics showing the strongest associations. Compliance with antihypertensive therapy was also linked to lower cancer-specific mortality. Further research is needed to explore the potential of antihypertensive medications as a low-cost pathway for supporting treatment of stage I-III colorectal cancer.

Summary: This study examined the trends, complications, payments, and costs associated with BMP use in spinal fusion among Medicare-insured elderly population. The results showed a decline in BMP utilization, increased costs, but no proportional increase in reimbursement.

Summary: This study developed two well-validated nomograms to accurately predict the risk of distant metastasis (DM) in patients with primary osseous spinal neoplasms (POSNs) and the overall survival (OS) rate of patients with DM. These prediction models are expected to be useful tools for individualized clinical management of these patients.

Summary: This study used retrospective cohort analysis to investigate the utilization of rhBMP-2 in spinal tumor surgery and its association with postoperative complications, revisions, and carcinogenicity. The results showed that patients who underwent fusion with rhBMP-2 had significantly increased rates of surgical site and systemic infections. However, there were no significant differences in survival, implant removal, revision rates, or new cancer diagnoses.

Summary: This study evaluated the differences in incidence and survival rates of oral cavity and pharynx cancer based on HPV status. It found that HPV-like cancer had higher incidence rates and survival rates compared to non-HPV-like cancer. There were also sociodemographic differences among the different types of cancer.

Summary: A prediction model was developed to assess the likelihood of surgical benefits for patients with advanced primary malignant bone neoplasms (PMBNs). The study identified age, M stage, and tumor size as significant predictors for surgical benefits. The developed predictive model demonstrated high accuracy and excellent discrimination ability.

Summary: The volume of surgeries performed at hospitals for bone metastatic disease (MDB) does not significantly affect patient outcomes, while medical school affiliation is associated with lower mortality rates. However, being treated at Commission on Cancer accredited hospitals is linked to higher risk of death after surgery.

Summary: Primary malignant cardiac tumors, especially cardiac sarcoma, have a poor prognosis compared to other cardiac or extracardiac tumors. This retrospective study analyzed the clinical data of 235 patients and found that tumor-directed surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy were the most common treatment methods. In addition, other associated cancers with cardiac sarcoma were rare.

Summary: Our study demonstrates that cytological evaluation of spinal lesions suspected of malignancy can provide a quick and reliable diagnosis of the underlying disease in patients with new-onset malignant spinal lesions, facilitating appropriate treatment. Implementing this process as a routine clinical diagnostic can shorten the time to diagnosis and improve treatment outcomes for this vulnerable patient group.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate racial/ethnic disparities in survivorship care patient experiences among older breast cancer survivors. The results showed that compared to white survivors, black and Asian survivors reported lower scores in getting care quickly, getting needed care, and overall care ratings. The findings varied among Hispanic survivors.
