Summary: The study compared the effects of injury-focused specific exercises with more general non-specific exercises on pain in patients with chronic neck or shoulder pain. It found that non-specific exercises were more effective in acute pain relief, while specific exercises may be more beneficial in short-term and long-term effects.

Summary: Clinicians have a growing number of evidence-based interventions to treat pain in youth. This systematic review examined studies that used mediation analysis to investigate mechanisms of interventions on pain outcomes for youth, revealing methodological and reporting limitations in this field. Substantial gaps exist in understanding how paediatric interventions work.

Summary: This study aims to summarize the literature on risk factors for mortality in mussel species, highlighting factors such as seasonal variations, elevated seawater temperature, predation, pathogens, and farming practices. Strategies to reduce mortality risk include using hybrid crosses, selecting mussel spat, and minimizing sand accumulation and anthropogenic sedimentation in wild bed conservation efforts. The study suggests that future research should focus on identifying multiple exposures associated with mussel mortality for more effective prevention and mitigation strategies.

Summary: This study aims to systematically review clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) for pediatric injury care and evaluate their quality. Through comprehensive search and evaluation, the study will synthesize and present recommendations in a matrix using the GRADE Evidence-to-Decision framework. The results of this study will provide valuable guidance for pediatric trauma care.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate CAM recommendations in neck pain clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) and assess their quality using the AGREE II instrument. The results showed that while most CPGs provided CAM recommendations, the quality of these recommendations was lower than overall recommendations, indicating a need for improvement. Additionally, there are limited CPGs available for healthcare providers and patients regarding CAM.

Summary: This systematic review found that manual therapy and exercise had superior and clinically important short-term improvements in symptoms and function compared to medical care or community-based group exercise. Manual therapy, education, and exercise delivered with a cognitive-behavioral approach demonstrated superior and clinically important improvements in walking distance compared to self-directed home exercises. Glucocorticoid plus lidocaine injection was more effective than lidocaine alone in improving statistical, but not clinically important improvements in pain and function in the short term.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the extent and characteristics of retracted publications in pain research. The results showed a significant increase in the number of retracted pain articles over time, with the majority of retractions being due to misconduct. The median time from article publication to retraction was 2 years, and the time differed depending on the reason for retraction. Further investigations into the fate of retracted pain articles are necessary to determine the impact of unreliable data on pain research.

Summary: Shared decision making is crucial in pain management and assessment due to the subjective nature of pain. This study reviewed current trends in commercial and research domains to identify key issues and guidelines for the development of pain-focused apps. A total of 69 articles and apps were included in the analysis out of 3612 articles and 336 apps searched in 22 databases and app stores. The findings highlight the need for considering different types of pain and implementing participatory design for successful app development, along with addressing challenges in app evaluation.

Summary: This study aimed to compare healthcare expenditures for long-term treatment of chronic low back pain using opioid analgesic therapy (OAT) or spinal manipulative therapy (SMT). The results showed that patients who received OAT had lower long-term costs for low back pain, but higher overall long-term healthcare costs under Medicare compared to those who received SMT.

Summary: This study aimed to describe the clinical course of pain intensity in individuals with cerebral palsy (CP) receiving usual care or specific interventions. The findings showed that children and adults receiving usual care had stable pain intensity over time, while interventions (such as continuous intrathecal baclofen and botulinum neurotoxin A injections) led to a significant reduction in pain intensity.

Summary: This study validates the JIA parent global assessment as a valid measure of health-related quality of life. Comparisons with other HRQoL measures show good construct validity. However, reliability estimates and measurement errors were unsatisfactory, likely due to the time interval between assessments. Causal pathway analysis confirms previous findings.

Summary: The study aims to develop a rehabilitation program for degenerative cervical radiculopathy (DCR) based on the perspectives of those suffering from the condition. Through qualitative interviews, the study found that patients desire a patient-centered approach, validating and reassuring healthcare providers, easier access to healthcare services, a supportive team environment, and peer support. The ideal rehabilitation program can be conceptualized using the enactive-biopsychosocial model.

Summary: This study estimated the minimal important difference (MID) of WHODAS-12 in individuals with chronic low back pain. The MID was found to be -3.22 (95% CI -4.79 to -1.64) or -5.99 (95% CI -7.20 to -4.79). These findings contribute to the assessment of whether rehabilitation or other health services achieve meaningful functional improvements for patients with chronic low back pain.
