Summary: Fatigue, stress, and health-related quality of life are associated with burn-out among rescuers. Lower quality of life and higher levels of fatigue and stress independently predict greater emotional exhaustion, while lower quality of life and fatigue predict more cynicism burn-out. Higher education and stress are positively associated with lower severity of burn-out in the professional efficacy domain.

Summary: The study estimated the prevalence of disability among Ghana's workforce aged 15+ years and found that males had nearly twice the risk of disability compared to females. Sex differentials were significantly associated with factors such as age groups, marital status, household size, region of residence, relationship to household head, hours of work per week, and wealth. The findings highlight the need for gender-sensitive workplace policies to reduce disparities and eliminate disability in the target population.

Summary: This study aims to explore the associations between workplace factors and employee alcohol use. The results indicate that workplace drinking social norms are the most dominant predictor of both alcohol consumption and alcohol-related problems. Some other workplace factors are also related to alcohol use, although their predictive ability is limited.

Summary: A systematic review and meta-analysis examined the global incidence of pneumoconiosis and its influencing factors. The pooled incidence of pneumoconiosis was 0.093, and seven factors (gender, smoking, job category, age, duration of dust exposure, cumulative total dust exposure, and silica exposure) were found to be associated with the incidence.

Summary: This study aimed to understand the characteristics and factors contributing to the morbidity of pneumoconiosis among migrant workers in China. The results showed that migrant workers were exposed to dust at an earlier age and had a higher proportion of tertiary pneumoconiosis compared to state-owned enterprise workers. They were predominantly male and had inadequate employment stability and medical insurance. Occupational health check-ups and management systems were also inadequate.

Summary: The study examines the trends in full-time equivalent working life expectancy (FTE-WLE) among disability pension recipients in Finland. The results show that disability pension recipients had a larger increase in FTE-WLE compared to those without disability pensions. The FTE-WLE of full disability pensioners was around 3.5 months in 2018, with the highest expectancy in musculoskeletal diseases. Partial disability pensioners had an FTE-WLE of around 6.5 and 8 years among men and women respectively, which is half of the expectancies of non-pensioners. The study also found that full disability pensioners spent more time in manual work, while partial pensioners had a higher proportion of non-manual work.

Summary: The majority of workplace physical activity interventions targeting older employees mainly focus on aerobic exercise, lacking interventions targeting strength and balance training as well as screening for falls/injury risk. The study suggests a need to improve the quality of current workplace PA interventions, with future interventions incorporating a multi risk factor approach and enhancing interventions to improve health and fitness outcomes for this population.

Summary: Compared to male workers, female workers had lower exposure levels of PAH. Only among female workers, an increase in lg(1-OHPyr) was related to increases in lg(NLR) and lg(PLR), while a decrease in lg(LYMs) was observed. This suggests that female workers may be more susceptible to the effects of PAH on NLR, PLR, WBCs, HGB, and LYMs compared to male workers.

Summary: This qualitative study aimed to explore women's perspectives and understanding of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) screening and diagnosis, comparing the modified COVID-19 recommendations to the standard practices. The results showed that women preferred the modified GDM screening recommendations put in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They also expressed a strong need for clear communication from health professionals and the opportunity to be active participants in decision making.

Summary: This study examined the potential association between living in Australian communities with PFAS contamination and the risk of cancer and cause-specific deaths. The findings showed elevated rates of certain cancers and coronary heart disease mortality in the contaminated areas. However, there was limited evidence to support a direct link between PFAS exposure and other diseases.

Summary: This study examined the associations between PFAS and cardiometabolic markers and conditions in communities with contaminated water. The findings suggest that PFAS exposure is associated with higher levels of total cholesterol, but not with liver function markers. There was only a clear association between PFAS and hypercholesterolemia in one of the communities, and no association with type II diabetes, liver disease, or cardiovascular disease.

Summary: This study examined the impact of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) on psychological distress. The research found that residents in communities exposed to PFAS contamination had higher levels of psychological distress compared to those in non-contaminated communities. Additionally, psychological distress was found to be associated with increasing PFAS serum concentrations and factors related to perceived risk of living in a community exposed to PFAS. These findings suggest that environmental chemical contamination can have negative effects on mental health.

Summary: Research Integrity Advisors in Australia provide impartial guidance to researchers and are an important part of creating a safe environment for discussing research integrity issues and resolving them. A census revealed that there are 739 advisors nationally, with an overall positive attitude towards the role. However, some advisors lack proper training and institutional support, indicating a need for improvement.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of repeated measures and missing data on the development of clinical deterioration prediction models using electronic medical record data from five Australian hospitals. The results showed that the variability of vital signs and patient consciousness were associated with missing data. Summary statistics and imputation methods improved model discrimination, but the clinical significance of these differences is questionable.

Summary: The study aimed to determine whether excluding gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) based on fasting venous plasma glucose (FVPG) assessment during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 had similar perinatal outcomes compared to excluding GDM using the standard oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) procedure in the previous year. The results showed that the frequencies of most perinatal outcomes were similar for women without GDM in 2019 and those for whom it was excluded in 2020 based on FVPG values. However, there was an increase in the risk of caesarean delivery in 2020 compared to 2019. The probabilities of several outcomes, such as respiratory distress, neonatal intensive care or special nursery admission, and large for gestational age babies, were slightly higher for women without GDM in 2020 compared to women without GDM in 2019.

Summary: This study assessed the methodological quality of economic evaluations on stroke prevention strategies for atrial fibrillation patients. The results showed that LAAC is a cost-effective strategy for preventing stroke in atrial fibrillation patients. However, the study identified shortcomings in the methodological quality, which raise concerns about the reliability and validity of the results.
