Summary: Intranasal oxytocin has the potential to be a novel therapy for autism spectrum disorder, but the efficacy of repeated administrations is inconsistent. This study tested the effect of TTA-121, a new formulation of intranasal oxytocin with improved bioavailability, on the core symptoms of autism spectrum disorder and determined the dose-response relationship. The findings showed that TTA-121 at a dose of 6 U per day significantly improved the reciprocity score, indicating potential benefits for individuals with autism spectrum disorder.

Summary: In this study, the genetic deficits in two siblings affected with ID and ASD were investigated. A microdeletion at 22q13.3 resulting in the haploinsufficiency of SHANK3 and several nearby genes was found in the younger sister, leading to the diagnosis of Phelan-McDermid syndrome. Whole-genome sequencing analysis in the family identified several rare, likely pathogenic variants in seven genes implicated in neurodevelopmental disorders in the elder brother. These variants have only moderate clinical effects and were transmitted from unaffected parents. The results suggest that the combination of multiple genes with moderate effects is part of the genetic mechanism of neurodevelopmental disorders.

Summary: This study investigated the journey of patients with alcohol use disorders seeking tertiary care psychiatry services. Through the use of the WHO encounter form, we evaluated 110 patients and their family members who sought psychiatry care for alcohol-related problems for the first time. Only a small percentage (5.5%) of patients took a direct pathway, while the majority accessed tertiary care after encounters with other service providers. Family decision played a role in seeking initial consultation, but medical professionals were crucial in referring patients to psychiatry care.
