Nickelate-based oxides are potential cathodes in Solid Oxide Fuel Cells operating at intermediate temperatures. The chemical compatibility between apatite electrolyte, i.e., La9Sr1Si6O26.5, and Nd-deficient nickelate. i.e., Nd1.95NiO4+delta has been characterized. The equilibrium between the nickelate material and the gas phase has been studied as functions of temperature and oxygen partial pressure, using potentiometric measurements with microelectrodes, i.e.. metallic or ceramic point electrodes. Two solid electrolytes were used, i.e., apatite and yttria-stabilized zirconia. The response of the nickelate is discussed in terms of oxygen stoichiometry. (C) 2009 Elsevier B.V. Summary: In this study, the hydrogen generation performance of LPSO compounds and LPSO + Mg alloys in simulated seawater solution was investigated. Results showed that LPSO compounds, especially the single phase LPSO Mg(87.6N)i(5.5)Y(6.9), exhibited improved H2 generation features compared to pure Mg. Alloys containing both Mg and LPSO benefited from galvanic coupling between the two phases, leading to higher reactivity and lower activation energies.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of high entropy on the anionic conductivity of oxides by designing and preparing multi-cation oxides with fluorite-type structures. The experimental results show that the ionic conductivity of the newly designed compositions is slightly improved compared to previous data, but still lower than expected.

Densification Study of Pr6O11 as a Limiting Step for the Determination of Its Oxygen Transport Properties

L. Guesnet, E. Bonnet, J. -m. Heintz, E. Chadourne, J. -c. Grenier, T. Chartier, P. -m. Geffroy, J. -m. Bassat

Summary: This study successfully sintered Pr6O11, a recently developed promising oxygen electrode for Solid Oxide Cells (SOCs). Dense pellets or thin films were used to accurately measure the ionic transport properties via the isotopic oxygen exchange method. Dilatometry experiments and sintering tests with different thermal cycles resulted in overcoming phase changes and achieving a sintered relative density of 95% for Pr6O11. The ionic transport properties of Pr6O11 were determined through Isotopic Exchange Depth Profiling (IEDP) measurements in the temperature range of 400 < T degrees C < 800.

Summary: This study presents an original method for shaping composite solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) anodes using nickel or copper as metal. It compares the traditional infiltration method with the supercritical infiltration method and explains how the latter can improve the electrochemical performance of the cells.
