Summary: This work investigates the electronic structure modification of scandia-ceria stabilized zirconia (10Sc1CeSZ) ceramics sintered at different temperatures. Through XRD, SEM, impedance spectroscopy, and XPS analysis, it was found that the increase in sintering temperature led to higher grain ionic conductivity, accompanied by reduced porosity, increased grain size, and a shift from rhombohedral to cubic phase. XPS also revealed a surface modification in the ceramic, with the lower sintering temperature showing more Zr-OH bonds.

Summary: This study developed a NO2 gas sensor based on yttrium-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) using a hard-template method and evaporation self-assembly technology. The sensor showed efficient gas-sensing performance due to the use of a nickel oxide sensing electrode and a three-dimensional ordered macroporous (3DOM) structure as the three-phase boundary. By changing the three-phase reaction boundary, the sensitivity of the sensor was significantly improved, with a response value 1.91 times higher than that of the untreated YSZ-based sensor at 450 degrees C and 100 ppm NO2. The 3D-ordered structure also exhibited good selectivity and long-term stability.

Summary: This study demonstrates a novel technology for monitoring changes in electrical potential of unsaturated soils using biofilm-populated electrodes. Using biofilm-populated electrodes as references in stable environments can successfully assess and monitor the electrochemical potential generated by plants and microorganisms. The findings suggest that long-term and real-time measurements of open-circuit potential in unsaturated soils are possible.

Summary: This study reports a phase-controlled, bendable, ultra-thin 3YSZ electrolyte with high flexural strength and improved ohmic resistance. The highest cell performance among reported flexible SOFCs is achieved using conventional electrodes, with a maximum power density of 0.86 W cm(-2) at 900 degrees C. This study provides a framework for developing flexible SOFCs as next-generation power sources for mobile devices with high volumetric power.

Summary: This paper presents a potentiometric multisensor measurement method that eliminates the need for a reference electrode by using cross-voltages for chemometric processing of data. Experimental results show that this method achieves at least the same accuracy as the traditional approach, and in some cases, it improves accuracy by two times, demonstrating the potential of the proposed measuring protocol.

Summary: The crystal structure and conductivity of (ZrO2)(0.90)(Sc2O3)(0.09)(Yb2O3)(0.01) and (ZrO2)(0.90)(Sc2O3)(0.08)(Yb2O3)(0.02) single-crystal membranes were studied after high-temperature aging. The study is important for the performance of solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs). The conductivity stability and phase transformation were observed, demonstrating a correlation between conductivity and phase composition. The (ZrO2)(0.90)(Sc2O3)(0.09)(Yb2O3)(0.01) composition was identified as a promising material for practical use in SOFCs.

Summary: The effect of long-term high-temperature annealing on the phase composition, local crystal structure, and oxygen-ion conductivity of SOFC membranes based on zirconium dioxide solid solutions was investigated. Crystals with different rare earth cations were obtained and their conductivity was analyzed. It was found that the conductivity of the crystals decreased with an increase in the ionic radius of the rare earth cation. The high-temperature degradation of conductivity was also discussed.

Summary: This paper presents the results of studying the phase composition, luminescent characteristics, and ionic conductivity of ceramic scandium-stabilized solid solutions of zirconium dioxide containing 9 and 10 mol% Sc2O3. The ceramic samples were prepared by sintering powders obtained by grinding melted solid solutions of the same composition. A comparative analysis with similar characteristics of single crystals was conducted, and differences in the phase composition of ceramics and initial single crystals were found. The effect of grain boundary structure and properties on the ionic conductivity of ceramic samples was discussed, showing that the differences in ionic conductivity are mainly due to changes in structure and phase composition.

Summary: In addition to various cellular processes, Ca2+ also plays a role in tumor initiation, progression, angiogenesis, and metastasis. A new all-solid-state calcium ion-selective microelectrode (Ca2+-IS mu E) based on carbon fiber modified with PEDOT (PSS) as a solid-contact was developed in this study. The Ca2+-IS mu E showed a stable Nernstian response in CaCl2 solutions and can be used for in vivo calcium monitoring of a single renal carcinoma cell.

Summary: We developed a potentiometric nonenzymatic ascorbic acid (AA) sensor using molybdenum trioxide (MoO3) film and copper oxide nanoparticles (CuO NPs) as the main sensing materials. The sensors and sensing materials were fabricated using screen printing technique, radio frequency sputtering system, and green synthesis method. We examined the average sensitivity, linearity, and interference effects of the AA sensor under static measurements, and performed experiments using a microfluidic system to analyze the best sensing characteristic under dynamic measurements. The AA sensor achieved better stability and accuracy with the help of a unity-gain frequency and low power consumption instrumentation amplifier (UGFPCIA).

Summary: In this study, the hydrogen generation performance of LPSO compounds and LPSO + Mg alloys in simulated seawater solution was investigated. Results showed that LPSO compounds, especially the single phase LPSO Mg(87.6N)i(5.5)Y(6.9), exhibited improved H2 generation features compared to pure Mg. Alloys containing both Mg and LPSO benefited from galvanic coupling between the two phases, leading to higher reactivity and lower activation energies.

Summary: This study successfully sintered Pr6O11, a recently developed promising oxygen electrode for Solid Oxide Cells (SOCs). Dense pellets or thin films were used to accurately measure the ionic transport properties via the isotopic oxygen exchange method. Dilatometry experiments and sintering tests with different thermal cycles resulted in overcoming phase changes and achieving a sintered relative density of 95% for Pr6O11. The ionic transport properties of Pr6O11 were determined through Isotopic Exchange Depth Profiling (IEDP) measurements in the temperature range of 400 < T degrees C < 800.
