Summary: The study found that in adults with type 2 diabetes, the severity of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is associated with postprandial hyperglycemia after dinner, but not after breakfast or lunch. This association was present in men but not in women.

Summary: This review provides an overview of the relationship between diabetes, obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), obesity, and heart disease, questioning the traditional understanding. It explores the evolutionary rationale for OSA and the concept of epigenetics, and presents the results of a literature search on epigenetic marks and gene expression changes. Alternative explanations for the etiology of these interlinking diseases are also explored.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) on skeletal muscle lipid oxidation in nondiabetic controls and type 2 diabetes (T2DM) patients. The results showed that severe OSA is not associated with reduced muscle lipid oxidation and that metabolic derangements in OSA are not mediated through impaired muscle lipid oxidation.

Summary: The study indicates that there is an association between obstructive sleep apnea and gestational diabetes mellitus, which may lead to higher inflammation levels and sympathetic activity. Additionally, IL-1 beta is related to insulin resistance and IL-10 is inversely correlated with neonatal birth weight.

Summary: Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is linked to the development of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), with intermittent hypoxemia (IH) and reduction of slow-wave sleep (SWS) being potential underlying mechanisms.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the prevalence and predictors of obstructive sleep apnea among type 2 diabetes mellitus patients receiving follow-up care. The overall prevalence of a high risk of obstructive sleep apnea was 31.97%, and factors such as neck circumference >= 40 cm, physical inactivity, comorbid hypertension, and male sex were significantly associated with a high risk of obstructive sleep apnea. Screening and evaluation for obstructive sleep apnea among type 2 diabetes mellitus patients are recommended to mitigate the negative impacts.

Summary: The study found that in OSA patients, basal O2 saturation is independent of AHI, BMI, and age, and is a risk factor for type 2 diabetes. One-way Cox regression analysis showed a higher risk of earlier type 2 diabetes for increased BMI, AHI, decreased basal O2, and O2 nadir values, while lowered mean O2 desaturation did not show statistical significance. In CART analysis, cut-off points of 92.2%, 81.7%, and 87.1% were determined for basal O2, O2 nadir, and mean O2 desaturation, with the first two parameters being statistically significant.

Summary: Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is a common disease that is often underestimated and undertreated in all age groups. Personalized diagnosis and treatment approaches are necessary for clinical practice due to morphological differences, clinical phenotype diversity, and variations in diagnosis and treatment of OSA in children and adults. Treatment should be based on individual tolerance to sleep-quality-related parameters, the harmful effects of hypoxia on the cardiovascular system, and patients' comorbidities.

Summary: The bidirectional relationship between obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and diabetes mellitus (DM) has been explored. A cohort study comparing surgery and continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) suggests that both therapies offer protection against diabetes, with upper airway surgery demonstrating better preventive efficacy than CPAP. However, potential biases and confounding variables should be considered.

Summary: Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and type 2 diabetes have a mutually promoting effect on disease development. Variation in chemosensitivity plays a key role in the pathophysiological mechanisms of OSA and type 2 diabetes. Previous studies suggest that individuals with OSA or type 2 diabetes may have higher chemoreflex levels, but identifying precise changes is challenging due to participant variations, disease severity at recruitment, and small sample sizes. Lowering chemosensitivity is a potential new concern for personalized care of individuals with OSA and type 2 diabetes. This review provides an overview of chemosensitivity changes in OSA and glucose metabolism, as well as prospective therapeutic treatments for patients with OSA and type 2 diabetes.

Summary: The study found that individuals with OSAS have significantly lower spindle density in N3 and shorter spindle duration in N2 compared to healthy controls. Furthermore, individuals with mild OSAS showed sleep spindle characteristics more similar to healthy controls, unlike those with moderate and severe OSAS.
