Summary: Bacterial sexually transmitted infections (BSTIs) are becoming increasingly concerning as antibiotic treatment options decrease. Phage therapy has been utilized in some countries for bacterial illnesses, but has not yet been used for BSTIs. The potential efficacy of phage therapy in treating BSTIs requires further research and exploration, as it presents a possible alternative to traditional antibiotic treatments.

Summary: This study found a possible association between bacterial vaginosis (BV) and sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Women with BV had a higher prevalence of STIs, including co-infections with multiple STI-causing microorganisms. Women without BV had lower rates of monoinfections and polyinfections with STI-causing microorganisms. Further research is needed to better understand the relationship between BV and STIs.

Summary: The study found that doxycycline post-exposure prophylaxis (doxyPEP) could reduce the incidence of bacterial sexually transmitted infections (STI) in people with HIV or using HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis. To minimize the use of antibiotics while maximizing the impact on STIs, researchers proposed prescribing strategies for doxyPEP.

Summary: Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are a major global public health problem, impacting millions of people every day. The burden is particularly high in the Sub-Saharan region, including Ethiopia. However, there is a lack of evidence on the distribution of STIs across Ethiopian regions. Therefore, understanding the infections and their geographic distribution is crucial to reducing their societal burden.

Summary: STIs are a major health concern, with the genital tract microbiota playing a crucial role. While current culture methods have limitations, a detailed characterization of microbiota-associated factors is essential for understanding the impact of bacteria on reproductive health and STIs.

Summary: In this study, it was found that doxycycline postexposure prophylaxis significantly reduced the incidence of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) among MSM and transgender women. The use of doxycycline was shown to be effective in preventing STIs in this population.

Summary: This study compared the incidence rates of bacterial sexually transmitted infections in Poland from 2010 to 2015. The overall incidence rates were lower in Poland compared to Europe and other countries. Young people aged 20-29 were found to be at the highest risk of infection. While the incidence rates of syphilis and gonorrhoea were lower in Poland compared to Europe, certain regions had higher rates. Gonorrhoea incidence in Poland was significantly lower compared to other countries, with more infections occurring in males. The number of non-gonococcal genital infections decreased during the study period in Poland.

Summary: 10 million people enter jails and prisons in the United States every year, with a high prevalence of STIs. These individuals are largely from communities of color and have lower access to healthcare and prevention compared to the general population. A systematic review of literature published since 2012 on STIs in various correctional facilities contributed to new recommendations in the CDC's treatment guidelines for STIs, including screening for Trichomonas in women entering correctional facilities.

Summary: The border between the State of Amapa, Brazil, and French Guiana is mostly primary forest. The region experiences sex work, gold mining, and sexually transmitted infections due to socioeconomic circumstances. This study aims to provide comprehensive data on the sexually transmitted infections in this border area and describe the testing and care activity.

Summary: Partner notification is a crucial component of STI control, enabling identification, treatment, and advice for sexual contacts. However, existing outcome measures only cover the initial stages of notification and do not consider the type of sexual partnership. This study proposes six new outcome measures at different stages, including stratification by partnership type.

Summary: Understanding the complex interplay between STIs, substance misuse, and mental health among inmates is crucial for targeted interventions. This study found high rates of risky sexual behaviors and drug use among inmates, leading to recommendations for improved screening, education, and follow-up care both in prisons and the community. Collaboration between sexual health clinics and prisons is necessary to address these public health challenges effectively.

Summary: This study investigated the prevalence and factors associated with bacterial sexually transmitted infection (STI) coinfection among male patients attending public STI clinics in Hong Kong from 2009 to 2019. The study found an increasing prevalence of coinfection over the years, with chlamydia/gonorrhoea coinfection being the most common. Young age, HIV-positive status, and a history of concurrent genital warts/herpes were associated with coinfection in 2014/15. Additionally, male patients aged 30-49 and self-reported as men who have sex with men (MSM) were more likely to have repeat infections. The findings support the implementation of regular multi-STI testing as a control strategy for selected communities.

Summary: This study explores the vulnerability of international floating populations to sexually transmitted infections (STIs) from various aspects including society, religion, culture, migration, community environment, and personal behaviors. In-depth interviews were conducted with 51 members of the international floating population in China, and qualitative thematic analysis was used to analyze the interview contents. The findings indicate that a conservative culture influenced by religion leads to a lack of sex education, resulting in insufficient knowledge and motivation for condom use. Geographical isolation and reduced social supervision also contribute to social isolation and marginalization, as well as challenges in coping with STI risk.

Summary: The early motor impairments were evident in children later diagnosed with ASD, with differences in motor functions increasing with age between ASD and typically developing groups. Motor function across different NDD groups varied. Further research is needed to determine the clinical utility of motor impairment detection as an early transdiagnostic marker of NDD risk.

Summary: The study revealed that young people involved with youth justice systems show weaker oral narrative skills compared to written narrative skills. The impact of LD on macrostructure elements was greater in oral narratives, while it was greater on microstructure elements in written narratives. Errors in written conventions were common among students with and without LD.

Summary: The study revealed that children in the remote Fitzroy Crossing communities in Western Australia have high rates of preventable emergency department presentations, especially those with Prenatal Alcohol Exposure (PAE). Commonly associated socio-economic factors include household over-crowding, financial and food insecurity. Support for culturally appropriate preventative programs and improved access to primary health services need to be provided in remote Australia.

Summary: The first study on the prevalence of fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD) within an Australian juvenile detention center revealed the highest known prevalence of FASD in a justice-involved population worldwide. A training intervention aiming to upskill the custodial workforce in managing youth with FASD and NDI was implemented and well received by the workforce, leading to improvements in knowledge and attitudes across almost all items.
