A cuff electrode device for applications in functional electrical stimulation and recording on micro-scale diameter nerves and nerve fibers is reported here. The proposed design addresses the need, for a cuff device for micro-scale diameter nerve tissue for which the presently available nerve cuff devices are generally not suitable. The micro-cuff electrode is provided with a clip-type feature that allows for easy opening of the cuff, its placement on nerve tissue, and subsequent closure. Advantages of this clip-type feature in electrode attachment and cuff closure are discussed. The use of the proposed clip-on device can be extended to larger diameter nerves and nerve fibers.
