Summary: This study examined the short- and mid-term outcomes of treating abdominal aortic infections using self-made bovine pericardium tube grafts. The results showed promising results in the treatment of abdominal aortic infections with these grafts, but long-term follow-up is needed for further confirmation.

Summary: Patients undergoing partial resection of infected aortic grafts, especially older patients with abdominal infection not isolated to a single graft limb, or with Candida infection or aortoenteric fistula, may be at high risk of death or post-repair infection. Late reinfection correlated strongly with early persistent postoperative infection, raising concern for occult retained infected graft material.

Summary: This study designed and verified an aortic stent-graft by optimizing a specially constructed commercial descending stent-graft. The optimization process, using surrogate modeling and multi-objective genetic algorithms, resulted in improved flexibility and radial support force of the stent-graft. The results provide guidelines and a feasible method for designing aortic arch stent-grafts.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of an escalated radiation dose on decellularized rabbit trachea. It determines that a dose of 1 kGy achieves complete sterility without significant histological and biomechanical changes in the organ.

Summary: This study describes the clinical features, diagnosis, and treatment outcome of patients with infective endocarditis in patients with a valve-tube ascending aortic graft. Male patients with staphylococcal infection were predominantly affected, and multimodality imaging played an important role in diagnosis and management. Conservative therapy may be a valid alternative in selected patients.

Summary: To mitigate the risk for post-operative complications, researchers developed a compliance-matching stent-graft and optimized it using computational analysis. The compliance-matching grafts achieved the distensibility of healthy human aortas and maintained their properties in a wide range of conditions. These grafts offer a valuable improvement over existing prostheses and could potentially reduce the risk of complications attributed to excessive graft stiffness.

Summary: Aortic root abscess is a severe complication of aortic valve endocarditis that requires complete debridement during surgical treatment, sometimes involving reconstruction of the aortic annulus. In cases of extensive abscess, a handmade aortomitral monobloc valve can be utilized to achieve complete debridement.

Summary: Lignin impregnated biochar derived from corn stalk and wheat straw showed improved porous properties and exhibited excellent adsorption performance for tetracycline hydrochloride (TCH) in wastewater. The adsorption behavior of TCH on the biochar could be interpreted by a two-step process, involving pore filling, hydrogen bonding, pi-pi interaction, and electrostatic interactions. Cations such as Na+, K+, Mg2+, and Al3+ could compete with TCH for adsorption, while Ca2+ could enhance TCH adsorption through the formation of TCH-Ca2+ complexes. The best performing lignin impregnated biochar was WS-L, which illustrated the potential of lignin-modified biochar for antibiotics removal from aqueous solutions.

Summary: In this study, the long-term behavior of PCL tubular grafts for abdominal aorta replacement was investigated in a rat model. The results showed that the grafts maintained patency without thrombosis, leakage, or interruptions. However, tissue reactions, mineralization, and intimal hyperplasia were observed. PCL vascular scaffolds have advantages such as graft permeability and good surgical outcomes, but also have disadvantages including low biodegradation rates and high risks of mineralization and intimal hyperplasia.
