Summary: The combination of stroke and cognitive impairment increases the severity of ADL disabilities in older adults. While the stroke group and cognitive impairment group showed similarities in the number and difficulty of tasks, differences were found in specific areas of difficulty. A hierarchy of ADLs was observed in all groups, indicating the need for interventions focusing on secondary prevention of dementia and improving motor functional capacity.

Summary: This study investigates the temporal sequence from microglial activation to synaptic dysfunction and cognitive behavior induced by neuroinflammation in mice. It demonstrates that neuroinflammation induces microglia activation, GABAergic synaptic deficits, and prolonged memory impairment.

Summary: This study proposes the use of carbon dots to improve the uniformity of memristor parameters, resulting in more stable and efficient devices. Furthermore, carbon dots based memristor devices are able to simulate various neural network learning rules and successfully achieve simulation of the preview and review learning method.

Summary: This study examined the self-reported activity and participation limitations in patients with CIDP and MMN, and identified associated factors. The results showed that CIDP patients commonly experienced limitations in activities and participation, while MMN patients had fewer limitations. Fatigue, pain, and resilience were found to be associated with activity limitations and satisfaction with participation in CIDP patients.

Summary: Social entrainment is crucial for the functioning of bee colonies. Through analysis of tracking data from around 1000 honeybees, it was observed that honeybees exhibit synchronized bursting behavior during locomotion. These bursts, which occur spontaneously, are possibly a result of intrinsic interactions among the bees. Physical contact was found to be a mechanism for these bursts. Pioneer bees, linked to foraging behavior and waggle dancing, play a key role in spreading external information within the hive. Transfer entropy analysis demonstrated that information flows from pioneer bees to non-pioneer bees, indicating that bursting behavior is influenced by foraging and information propagation, promoting integrated group behavior among individuals.

Summary: Education, income, and having young children are found to be main factors influencing the probability of spouses participating in the same cultural and sports activities. Both male and female education have a positive effect on these probabilities, but there is no statistically significant difference.

Summary: Chronic cerebral hypoperfusion (CCH)-mediated cognitive impairment is a global problem. In this study, we found that RasGRF1 expression levels decreased after CCH, while the inhibition of miRNA-323-3p upregulated RasGRF1 expression and improved cognitive impairments such as spatial learning and memory.

Summary: This study investigated the mediating effect of social participation and depressive symptoms on the relationship between hearing impairment and frailty using data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study. The results showed that hearing impairment, social participation, and depressive symptoms were associated with the incidence of frailty. Both social participation and depressive symptoms mediated the relationship between hearing impairment and frailty, albeit in different ways depending on the participants' hearing status. Integrated intervention measures, such as hearing screenings, promoting social participation, and improving depressive symptoms, are suggested to prevent frailty.

Summary: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) impairs cellular energy demand, compromising neuronal function and plasticity. This study demonstrates that the mitochondrial activator humanin (HN) can counteract the reduction in mitochondrial bioenergetics caused by TBI, restore memory function and synaptic protein levels, and suppress inflammation and astrocyte proliferation. HN plays an integral role in normalizing fundamental aspects of TBI pathology.

Summary: Cocaine exposure in male rats affects fear-associated behaviors in their offspring, with enhanced freezing behavior in female progeny and enhanced expression of cue-conditioned fear during extinction in male progeny. The absence of long-term potentiation (LTP) in the basolateral amygdala (BLA) suggests synaptic plasticity deficits in male offspring of cocaine-exposed sires.

Summary: Post-stroke cognitive impairment is a major complication of stroke, characterized by cognitive dysfunction that directly affects quality of life. This review examines the pathological damage of stroke on synaptic plasticity, analyzes changes in synaptic plasticity in post-stroke cognitive impairment, and summarizes commonly used Chinese herbal drugs that can regulate synaptic plasticity. The review aims to establish the relationship between post-stroke cognitive impairment and synaptic plasticity, provide new insights for future exploration of its mechanism, compile evidence for the use of Chinese herbal drugs in treating post-stroke cognitive impairment, and lay the foundation for the development of novel formulas.

Summary: This study explored the benefits of different modalities of cultural activities for cognitively impaired individuals, finding significant improvements in general cognition, quality of life, emotional wellbeing, socialization, and communication. However, there was not enough evidence to prove memory, language, or daily functioning improvements attributable to cultural interventions.
