Relaxor ferroelectric behavior has been investigated in the (1 - x)Ba(Yb1/2Nb1/2)O-3-xPbTiO(3) solid solution with compositions of 0.50 < x < 0.68, prepared by solid-state reactions. The dielectric permittivity (epsilon') exhibits a diffuse and dispersive maximum. The frequency dependence of the temperature of dielectric maximum follows the Vogel-Fulcher law. A deviation from the Curie-Weiss law was observed below the Burns temperature (T-B). With increasing PbTiO3 content in the solid solution, the degree of relaxor behavior decreases gradually, leading towards a normal ferroelectric state. (c) 2009 Acta Materialia Inc.
