A highly mesoporous melamine-formaldehyde resin (MMF) has been successfully synthesized through a facile route. It shows a relatively high surface area (317 m(2) g(-1)), uniform pore sizes (8.0 nm), enhanced adsorption capacity (66.65 mg g(-1)) and selectivity for hexavalent chromium.

Immobilization of chitosan on polyether ether ketone surface modified with acrylic acid by UV-induced graft polymerization

Guoliang Pang, Miao Yi, Xin Yin, Wenliang Wu, Shiai Xu

Summary: In this study, ultraviolet-induced graft polymerization combined with wet chemical treatment was used to immobilize chitosan (CS) onto the surface of polyether ether ketone (PEEK). The grafting degree of CS could be controlled by adjusting the CS solution concentration, and CS-grafted PEEK exhibited higher hydrophilicity compared to unmodified PEEK. Furthermore, the CS-grafted PEEK demonstrated good antibacterial activity.

Enhancing the interfacial bond strength of aluminum/polymer laminated film of the soft package lithium-ion battery through polydopamine surface modification

Jiajun Xu, Shiai Xu

Summary: This study developed a chromate-free method for surface modification of aluminum foil using polydopamine functionalization after titanium chemical conversion in response to the need for increased adhesive strength and durability of the adhesive joint in the Al/polymer laminated film of soft package lithium-ion battery. The results showed that the amine and catechol groups of the polydopamine improved the interfacial adhesion between the adhesive and aluminum foil by enhancing wettability and interfacial interaction.

Effect of acetylated citrate plasticizer on mechanical properties of poly (vinyl chloride)

Jiyuan Liu, Rui Yuan, Qi Sang, Li Dang, Li Gao, Benhua Xu, Shiai Xu

Summary: This study investigates the effects of acetylation modification on the plasticization properties of citrates and provides insights into the underlying mechanisms using experimental and molecular dynamics simulation approaches. The results show that acetylated citrates have better plasticizing efficiency compared to non-acetylated citrates. The study also explores the toxicity of acetylated citrates. Overall, this research contributes to a better understanding of the plasticizing mechanisms of citrates and proposes an optimized citrate structure with higher performance.

Effect of Functionalized Polyethylene Wax on the Melt Processing and Properties of Highly Filled Magnesium Hydroxide/Linear Low-Density Polyethylene Composites

Rujie Li, Shiai Xu, Jiajun Xu, Tongtong Pan, Beibei Sun, Li Dang

Summary: The poor processing and rheological properties of highly filled composites caused by the high loading of fillers can be improved with the use of maleic anhydride grafted polyethylene wax (PEWM) as compatibilizer and lubricant. Two PEWMs with different molecular weights were synthesized and characterized. The addition of PEWM significantly improved the processability and fluidity of the composites, while reducing viscosity. However, both PEWM and polyethylene wax (PEW) had adverse effects on flame retardancy.

Summary: The addition of maleic anhydride grafted polypropylene (MAPP) with high melt flow index (MFI) improves the processability and flowability of magnesium hydroxide (MH)/linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) composites, leading to a reduction in viscosity and the formation of a transition layer. In addition, the simultaneous addition of MH and MAPP has a synergistic smoke suppression effect.
