Summary: This article discusses the issue of unwarranted variation in medical education. The authors argue that while some variability is acceptable, unwarranted variation has a negative impact on educational outcomes and healthcare quality. To address this issue, medical educators need to differentiate between warranted and unwarranted variation and implement continuous quality improvement measures.

Summary: Hydration practices for patients undergoing hip, knee, or spine surgery advise against consuming caffeinated drinks, alcoholic beverages, and sugar-sweetened drinks as they can disrupt body fluid balance. However, the author of this opinion article questions the inclusion of beer among prohibited beverages due to its low alcohol content and conflicting evidence on its rehydrating effects.

Summary: Prior research has found that the way information is communicated can affect decision-making, especially the structure of language, particularly the form of verb tense, which can predict savings behavior among speakers of different languages. This study tests the causal effect of language structure on financial decision-making by manipulating verb tense within a single language. The findings show that verb tense can significantly influence choices due to temporal inferences. However, the spontaneous use of verb tense in decision-making only occurs when there are no other timing cues, and it is eliminated if there are ambiguous or non-diagnostic time cues present, although prompted timing inferences persist.

Summary: Studying food systems is complex due to diverse actors and interlinking processes. Descriptive research and comparisons across geography, income groups, and population groups are important foundations. Introducing data visualization tools can improve access to and usage of food systems-related data, influencing policies and actions more effectively.

Summary: The study revealed that different qualities of familiarization have a profound impact on representations of face familiarity, with face familiarity representations being weaker after media familiarization compared to personal familiarization. There was no enhancement found in face identity representation across all experiments, indicating that familiarity and identity representations emerge independently during face familiarization. The results highlight the importance of extensive, real-life familiarization for the emergence of robust face familiarity representations, which constrains models of face perception and recognition memory.

Summary: Impulsivity is a multidimensional construct involving behavioral inhibition and decision making, with adaptive fast responses but also abnormal manifestations in pathological contexts. Tools for assessing impulsivity exist in both behavioral and self-reported measures, with different applications in humans and rodents.

Summary: In this study, it was revealed that mutant SETBP1 induces a MYC-driven transcriptional program that promotes leukemogenesis in CSF3R mutant leukemia. Execution of this program relies on lysine-specific demethylase 1 (LSD1), suggesting that combining inhibitors of JAK2 and LSD1 may be a potential treatment for chronic neutrophilic leukemia (CNL).
