Summary: The impact of the duration of untreated prodromal symptoms (DUPrS) on the development of psychosis in individuals at clinical high risk (CHR) varies. A longer DUPrS is associated with younger age, higher baseline global function, lower previous global function, and higher negative symptoms.

Summary: This study examines the duration of untreated psychosis and its social and clinical correlates in a sample of U.S. Latinxs with first-episode psychosis. It finds that Latinxs immigrants and those with limited English-speaking proficiency experience longer delays in receiving antipsychotic medication. The study highlights the importance of addressing this subgroup in intervention efforts.

Summary: This study systematically compared the duration of untreated illness (DUI) and duration of untreated psychosis (DUP) in predicting impairment in first-episode psychosis. Shorter DUI, but not DUP, predicted less severe positive and general symptoms, while shorter DUP and particularly DUI predicted less severe negative symptoms. Shorter DUI and DUP were associated with increased quality of life.

Summary: This study analyzed a large population-based cohort to examine the medical and genetic risks associated with suicide in psychosis. It found that individuals with psychosis were more likely to die from atypical methods of suicide and that genetic risk for schizophrenia was associated with atypical suicide. These findings have important implications for the development of prevention strategies for suicide in individuals with psychosis.

Summary: The study found that children endorsing psychotic-like experiences (PLEs) are at a greater risk for suicidal ideation and behavior (SI/SB), and distress specific to PLEs may play an important role as a mediator and moderator in this relationship.

Summary: The study found no evidence of ethnicity influencing the duration of untreated psychosis (DUP), but identified factors such as age, living circumstances, and pathways to care as strongly associated with short DUP. Social isolation indicators were linked to long DUP, highlighting the importance of addressing social factors and the care pathway in tackling timely access to early intervention for psychosis services.

Summary: A longer duration of untreated psychosis (DUP) may adversely affect the course and impact of the illness. Little is known about predictors of duration of untreated psychosis in lower socioeconomic strata (SES) in urban India. Variables such as presence of an antecedent stressor, acute onset of psychosis, presence of medical co-morbidities, lower stigma scores, and higher SAS scores were significantly associated with shorter DUP.

Summary: This article presents the findings of a communications campaign called La CLAve, which aimed to reduce the duration of untreated psychosis in a U.S. Latinx community. The study found that Spanish-speaking Latinxs with first-episode psychosis are at higher risk for prolonged duration of untreated psychosis. The campaign was widely disseminated and reached the community, but additional efforts are needed to reduce treatment delay and increase access to early intervention services for communities of color.

Summary: The aim of this study was to explore the relationship between the Duration of Untreated Psychosis (DUP) and long-term clinical outcome, cognitive and social function in patients with chronic schizophrenia. The results showed that patients with long DUP had higher negative symptom scores, declining cognitive function, and poorer social function. In addition, the length of DUP was positively or negatively correlated with negative symptom scores, visual span, and Global Assessment of Functioning scores. Therefore, DUP still has a significant impact on negative symptoms and cognitive function in patients with chronic schizophrenia.

Summary: The duration of untreated psychosis (DUP) is associated with poor mental health outcomes. This meta-analysis found that DUP is high worldwide, but varies significantly across continents and income levels. Older age, older publication year, and a higher proportion of non-White patients are associated with longer DUP.

Summary: The association between duration of untreated psychosis (DUP) and later outcome can be explained by lead-time bias, which was not found in this study. The onset of treatment occurred when participants' level of functioning was most impaired, suggesting that treatment was not at random. Longer DUP was associated with worse functional outcomes.

Summary: The study aims to evaluate how different areas of functioning are inter-related according to the length of DUP in patients with first episode psychosis. Results suggest that in patients with longer DUP, domains such as social withdrawal, participation in household activities, general interest and information, and low level of activity seem to act as bridge items with other areas of functioning.

Summary: The study found that mental health literacy (MHL) has a significant independent effect on the Duration of Untreated Psychosis (DUP), surpassing education and migration history. In addition to MHL, DUP was also associated with factors such as education level, diagnosis type, and age of onset.

Summary: The training of mental health professionals is crucial in suicide prevention programs. A survey in Italy showed that early career psychiatrists and trainees' knowledge and attitudes towards suicide, as well as their experience with patient suicides or suicide attempts, affect their clinical management skills.
