Summary: The present study investigated the catalytic activity of heterogeneous catalyst for transesterification of glycerol into glycerol carbonate. The study found that lithium impregnated on MCM-41 framework showed better catalytic activity, leading to an increase in the average pore diameter. The optimal conditions for glycerol carbonate yield were determined as 5% Li impregnation, calcination at 450°C, reaction temperature of 90°C for 3 hours, achieving a 93.14% yield.

Summary: The rice husk-derived MCM-41 catalyst incorporated with 5 wt.% cobalt showed a higher GLc yield of 60.2% due to its optimal basicity. By adjusting conditions, a high GLy conversion rate of 98.7% and GLc yield of 94.1% were achieved in the batch reactor with the transesterification reaction taking place at 90 degrees C for 2 hours.

Summary: In this study, indium-modified heteropoly tungstate catalysts were synthesized to enhance the Lewis acidity. The catalysts were characterized by various techniques, confirming the presence of Keggin ion structure after modification. The modification with indium ions improved the acidity and stability of the catalysts. Pyridine adsorbed FT-IR spectra indicated the presence of Lewis acidic sites associated with indium ions. The catalysts showed different acidity and activity depending on the amount of indium ions. The partially exchanged In0.66TPA catalyst exhibited high glycerol conversion and selectivity to glycerol carbonate. Optimum reaction conditions were determined by investigating various reaction parameters.

Summary: This study for the first time used Iranian natural pumice as a source of silica to derive MCM-41 adsorbent, which was highly grafted with APTES for anchoring cephalexin (CEX) molecules. The results showed that N-MCM-41 exhibited excellent adsorption capacity and desorption performance, providing guidance for antibiotic adsorption.

Summary: This study proposes a facile method to prepare an effective, low-cost, and easily prepared catalyst from wasted pineapple peels. The catalysts were prepared by calcination of dried pineapple peel powders in air at temperatures between 300-800 degrees C. The catalysts were characterized using various techniques, and it was found that the catalyst prepared at 600 degrees C showed the highest basicity and activity. Using this catalyst, the highest glycerol conversion of 92.85% and glycerol carbonate yield of 90.29% were achieved under optimal conditions.

Summary: This study focuses on the valorization of glycerol, a major by-product from biodiesel industry, into glycerol carbonate using a carbon-based sulfated sodium catalyst. The influence of reaction parameters on the yield and selectivity of glycerol carbonate was investigated. The results showed that under optimized conditions, high yield and selectivity of glycerol carbonate could be achieved. The catalyst could be easily recovered and reused without any pre-treatment.

Summary: Researchers have successfully tuned the surface acidity-basicity of a catalyst through molecular level control of its chemical composition. They reported a novel molybdenum phosphate catalyst with tunable acidity-basicity for the sustainable synthesis of glycerol carbonate. The physicochemical properties of the catalyst changed considerably by varying the metal and phosphorus concentrations.

Summary: In this study, one-pot glycidol synthesis was achieved by trans-esterification between glycerol and dimethyl carbonate using commercially available sodium methoxide as a catalyst. A high glycerol conversion rate of 99% and a remarkable glycidol yield of 75% were obtained under specific reaction conditions. Sodium methoxide could be recycled and reused with minimal decrease in glycerol conversion. The water content in glycerol did not affect the catalyst's efficiency. A plausible mechanism for the trans-esterification was proposed.
