Summary: A ZrO2-Li2Si2O5 ceramic with minimized glass phases was successfully prepared through a sol-gel method and pressureless sintering. The study showed that the densification process of the ceramic was mainly dominated by the growth of Li2Si2O5 grains, and adjusting the Li2Si2O5 content and sintering temperature could control the properties of the samples effectively.

Summary: By doping Pr up to 15 at%, the high-temperature cubic phase of HfO2 has been stabilized at room temperature, with a coexistence of monoclinic and cubic phases observed between 7 and 13 at% of Pr. The decrease in particle size from 35 to 10 nm, along with the decrease in bandgap from 5.42 to 5.06 eV, is attributed to nonstoichiometric HfO2_x and the formation of sub-bands near the conduction band induced by enhanced oxygen vacancies.

Summary: In this study, Nd-doped zirconia ceramics were successfully prepared using the hydrothermal assisted sol-gel method. With the increase in Nd content, the phase structure of ZrO2 changed and the grain size and compactness of the obtained ceramics increased with the increment in sintering temperature. The successful accommodation of Nd within the ZrO2 lattice was confirmed by the detected increase of cell parameters. This study provides a new method for the immobilization of high-level radioactive waste.

Summary: In this study, CF-ZrO2/ZrC composites with controllable coating thickness were prepared using an in-situ sol-gel method. By changing the hydrophobicity of the carbon fibers surface, the interface affinity was increased, ensuring the preparation of uniform coatings. The coating layer increased the thickness of the composites and prevented further oxidation of internal carbon. This method effectively improved the ablative resistance and thermal decomposition temperature of the composites.

Summary: Hierarchically porous monoliths based on cobalt manganite have been prepared through a sol-gel process with phase separation, resulting in interconnected macropores and open nanopores. The dual-polymer strategy effectively induces spinodal decomposition to form a porous gel with a co-continuous structure. The effects of solvent and polymer on the porous morphology derived from phase separation have been systematically studied.

Summary: In this study, atom-doped ZrO2-SiO2 complex oxide catalysts were prepared using sol-gel method for hydrothermal liquefaction of Spirulina. The optimized catalyst, calcinated at 700 degrees C with the ratio of SiO2:ZrO2 = 10:1 and 5g polyethylene glycol, showed the best performance in terms of specific surface area and total acid site density, providing the highest biocrude yield.

Summary: Carbothermal reduction of Zr-sucrose gels powders into nano-phase ZrC or ZrC-Zr(C, O) core-shell powders was achieved by using a composite of 2-4 nm sized ZrO2 and amorphous carbon. The resulting products varied in morphology and structure depending on the sucrose-carbon:Zr ratio in the gels.

Summary: In our previous work, we used the organic acids assisted sol-gel method to prepare ZrO2 aerogels. We found that organic acids with two carboxyl groups and one side group, or with three carboxyl groups and one hydroxyl group, were necessary to form wet gels. In this work, we used different organic reagents to verify our assumption and successfully synthesized ZrO2 aerogels with high surface area and large pore volume.
