This review summarizes the current research on the development of biologically active polymer compounds based on chitosan and its derivatives; it systematizes approaches taken for the design of conjugates based on a given polymer, and it covers the latest trends in the development of targeted drug delivery systems. An analysis of published data shows that the conjugation of biologically active substances with chitosan and its derivatives results in promising materials for use as drug delivery systems and for the control of the properties of the biologically active substances.
