Summary: In the past two decades, advancements have been made in understanding interstitial lung disease (ILD) and its treatments, but questions remain about how the disease and therapies impact patients. This research aims to summarize the state of patient-centered outcomes in ILD, identify gaps in knowledge, and suggest methods for future research agendas. The international interdisciplinary group of experts identified top patient-centered outcomes, reviewed literature, and developed research recommendations to elevate and incorporate patient-centered outcomes in ILD research.

Summary: This study assessed the coverage and gaps in federally funded data for patient-centered outcomes research (PCOR) economic evaluations. It identified several types of costs relevant for PCOR and found that while the existing federal data infrastructure captures many areas of the economic burden of health and healthcare, there are still gaps.

Summary: There is a lack of patient-centered research on outcomes of aborted cancer surgery, with no relevant literature identified in a systematic review. Future research should focus on understanding patients' experiences, care needs, and preferences following aborted cancer surgery to inform interventions that can improve quality and quantity of life.

Summary: The impact of COVID-19 on patients with kidney disease and their families, as well as on research engagement among high-risk individuals, was explored in this study. Findings revealed emotional, behavioral, and healthcare delivery changes as a result of the pandemic. However, the ability to engage in research was largely unaffected. Recommendations for patient-centered outcomes research during emergencies include virtual activities, active engagement, and promoting trust and authenticity.

Summary: This study aimed to characterize the patient experience of Wilson disease (WD) and develop a conceptual model containing key symptoms and impacts of the disease. Results show that patients with WD experience significant multisystemic symptoms and impacts, especially related to hepatic symptoms. The study identified two distinct patient groups, which may inform patient management and targeted drug development processes.

Summary: This paper explores how game players' behavior preferences influence strategy choices and equilibrium results in extreme disputes of large-scale engineering projects. By establishing a three-party game model, the paper discusses the impact of loss aversion preference and fairness preference on decision outcomes, and deduces equilibrium results for four different types of extreme disputes.

Summary: Patient-Centered Outcomes Research (PCOR), rooted in the tradition of Community-Based Participatory Research, aims to empower patients by including and amplifying their voices in healthcare decision-making. Findings from a four-year PCOR engagement effort in the US Midwest revealed patient disempowerment, discomfort with remote interpreting, and knowledge mismatches in medical interactions. Discussions highlighted women's efforts in addressing healthcare issues and their resilience in describing systemic inequities in health communication.

Summary: Between 15% and 45% of nursing home residents in need of medical specialist care did not receive adequate care, with 27% having unmet needs in at least one of the specialties investigated. It is estimated that up to 205,000 nursing home residents in Germany do not receive adequate medical specialist care. Interventions are needed to address the considerable proportion of residents with unmet needs.

Summary: Dementia is a complex condition with multiple risk factors. This systematic review of reviews highlights the importance of considering various health aspects, including lifestyle, social factors, and genetics, when predicting the risk of dementia. The findings suggest that the Mediterranean diet, regular physical activity, and cognitively stimulating activities may have a protective effect against cognitive decline and dementia. However, further research is needed to better understand the role of social factors and to explore potential protective factors against dementia.

Summary: Research projects in the health sciences often involve ethically sensitive areas, leading to an increasing need for ethics approvals for student research projects. This study investigated how different universities in Germany deal with ethical aspects in students' research, showing that structured procedures exist at some but not all degree programmes. Various approaches were presented, such as the use of checklists, internal ethics committees, and ethics advisory services, highlighting the importance of dealing with ethics approvals related to students' research projects.
