Summary: The aim of this study was to compare the interproximal cleaning efficacy of waist-shaped and straight soft interdental brushes in patients undergoing nonsurgical periodontal therapy. The results showed that there was no significant difference in plaque reduction between the two brush designs after 8 weeks of treatment, indicating similar efficacy for patients with periodontitis undergoing treatment.

Summary: The study found that levels of AGEs were significantly higher among cigarette-smokers and waterpipe-users compared to never-smokers, but there was no significant difference in periodontal parameters among the groups. The impact of smoking and waterpipe use on periodontal health appears to be mainly at a molecular level.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the correlation between bacterial dental plaque accumulation and gingival health in subjects with a history of periodontitis using different intervals of personal oral hygiene measures. The results showed that subjects with extended intervals of oral hygiene measures exhibited an increased correlation between plaque accumulation and gingival inflammation.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the associations of periodontitis and oral hygiene status and behaviors with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The results showed that participants with periodontitis and a higher number of missing teeth had a higher risk of developing RA. In contrast, better oral hygiene behaviors, such as frequent tooth brushing and recent dental scaling, were associated with a lower occurrence of RA.

Summary: Research findings have shown that increasing self-reported gingival bleeding frequency is associated with increased gingival bacterial diversity. Frequent gingival bleeding is associated with increased abundance of certain bacteria (such as Porphyromonas endodontalis, Treponema denticola, and Fretibacterium spp.), but decreased abundance of bacteria within the gram-positive phyla Firmicutes and Actinobacteria. Additionally, using dental floss and mouthwash twice daily is associated with increased total abundance of bacteria in the Proteobacteria phylum, but decreased bacterial diversity.

Summary: This study found significant differences in the oral microbiota of patients with PD compared to healthy controls, possibly due to factors such as dysphagia, drooling, and salivary pH. Understanding the factors influencing their oral microbiota could lead to the development of diagnostic and treatment strategies to improve the quality of life and survival of these patients.

Summary: The study found that stable sites in periodontitis progression were characterized by high asynchrony, directional changes dominating community reordering, and new species more likely to be recruited if a close relative was not recruited previously. Progressing sites exhibited low asynchrony and convergence, while fluctuating sites had high asynchrony, community convergence, and a neutral recruitment model.

Summary: This study found an association between poor dental health and increased risk of esophageal cancer, including both esophageal adenocarcinoma and esophageal squamous cell carcinoma. Root canal infection and periodontitis were associated with increased risk of esophageal adenocarcinoma, and fewer remaining teeth also increased the risk of both histopathological types of esophageal cancer.

Summary: Both type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus are increasingly prevalent worldwide and are major causes of morbidity and mortality. The TUDID study aims to investigate the causes of individual susceptibility to diabetes-related complications by conducting a comprehensive examination and laboratory tests on adult diabetes mellitus patients in a southern German university hospital. The study focuses on the kidneys, eyes, vasculature, as well as cognition and mood, with standardized investigations for early stages of complications. The analysis of the data generated from this study will contribute to our understanding of the development and progression of diabetes-related complications and aid in the implementation of tailored treatment options to reduce their risk and severity.

Summary: The study found that most CAD/CAM materials showed little to no total fluorescence in the 395 nm - 415 nm wavelength spectrum used for FIT, except for a few exceptions with fluorescence values similar to tooth hard substances. Resin-based CAD/CAM materials generally exhibited higher fluorescence values compared to tooth hard substances, suggesting their potential suitability for FIT.

Summary: This randomized controlled clinical trial compared the clinical survival and quality parameters of a bulk-fill composite resin and a conventional nanohybrid composite resin in class-II restorations. The results showed that both materials had similar clinical performance and survival rates, indicating that bulk-fill composite resin is a satisfactory alternative in the posterior dentition.

Summary: This study evaluated the application of the Mediterranean Diet Adherence Screener (MEDAS) in a study of the anti-inflammatory effect of a Mediterranean diet intervention on periodontal parameters. The results showed that the MEDAS score was negatively correlated with periodontal inflammation and positively correlated with certain nutrient intakes. The food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) and 24-hour dietary recall (24dr) produced comparable results for most nutrients.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the association between oral health-related conditions and the oral microbiome in a sample of centenarians. The findings showed that the diversity and structure of the oral microbiome were influenced by the presence and condition of natural teeth. Additionally, regular dental visits and salivary pH were found to have significant effects on the microbial composition. Most centenarians had hyposalivation and acidic pH, which could negatively impact the microbiome diversity.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the long-term clinical quality of subgingivally placed composite resin restorations and their impact on inflammatory status of surrounding supracrestal gingival and periodontal tissues. Results showed no increased inflammation was observed on sites with subgingivally placed composite restorations over an observation period of approximately 3 years. Regular use of interdental brushes was associated with less gingival inflammation.
