Is fibromyalgia associated with a unique cytokine profile? A systematic review and meta-analysis

Luke Furtado O'Mahony, Arnav Srivastava, Puja Mehta, Coziana Ciurtin

Summary: The study showed significant differences in the peripheral blood cytokine profiles of fibromyalgia patients compared with healthy controls, with consistently elevated chemokine eotaxin. Meta-analysis revealed increased levels of TNF-alpha, IL-6, IL-8, and IL-10 in fibromyalgia patients.

Immune gene expression and functional networks in distinct lupus nephritis classes

Alyssa C. Gilmore, Hannah R. Wilson, Thomas D. Cairns, Marina Botto, Liz Lightstone, Ian N. Bruce, Herbert Terence Cook, Matthew Caleb Pickering

Summary: This study explores the utility of the NanoString platform in analyzing immune gene transcripts in class III, IV and V lupus nephritis. The results show significant upregulation of NF-kappa B signaling and immunological enrichment in class IV LN samples compared to class V LN samples. The revelation of these molecular pathways has clinical utility in treatment selection for LN.

Management of interstitial lung disease (ILD) in myositis syndromes: A practical guide for

Puja Mehta, Rohit Aggarwal, Joanna C. Porter, Harsha Gunawardena

Summary: Inflammatory myopathies are a diverse set of clinical syndromes with variable manifestations, and interstitial lung disease (ILD) is a major contributor to morbidity and mortality in myositis patients. The treatment approach for myositis-ILD involves immunomodulation and the option to add antifibrotics to slow down fibrosis progression. Early identification and multidisciplinary collaboration are crucial for the assessment and management of myositis-ILD.

Marital Status and Gender Differences as Key Determinants of COVID-19 Impact on Wellbeing, Job Satisfaction and Resilience in Health Care Workers and Staff Working in Academia in the UK During the First Wave of the Pandemic

Junjie Peng, Wing Han Wu, Georgia Doolan, Naila Choudhury, Puja Mehta, Ayesha Khatun, Laura Hennelly, Julian Henty, Elizabeth C. Jury, Lih-Mei Liao, Coziana Ciurtin

Summary: The COVID-19 pandemic has had a negative impact on the wellbeing, resilience, and job satisfaction of healthcare and medical research staff. Married women have lower wellbeing compared to married men, and single women have lower wellbeing compared to both married women and men. There are also gender differences in satisfaction outside of work, with women reporting higher satisfaction before the pandemic.

Giant Cell Arteritis and COVID-19: Similarities and Discriminators. A Systematic Literature Review

Puja Mehta, Sebastian E. Sattui, Kornelis S. M. van der Geest, Elisabeth Brouwer, Richard Conway, Michael S. Putman, Philip C. Robinson, Sarah L. Mackie

Summary: Common features of giant cell arteritis (GCA) and coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) include headache, fever, elevated CRP, and cough. However, jaw claudication, visual loss, platelet count, and lymphocyte count may be more discriminatory. Physicians should be cautious of potential diagnostic confusion and use a simple checklist for evaluation of suspected GCA patients.
