Summary: Persons with chronic stroke have difficulty walking independently. This study compared the motor adaptation process between split-belt treadmill walking and unilaterally applied resistance to the swing leg during walking. The results showed that patients were able to adapt to both perturbation methods and the rate of adaptation and de-adaptation were similar.

Summary: The outcomes of total hip arthroplasty (THA) and total knee arthroplasty (TKA) for patients with a history of cerebrovascular accident (CVA) and neurological sequelae are similar to those without CVA. However, there is a higher risk of mortality for CVA patients.

Summary: This article aims to highlight the different theoretical-methodological processes of cross-cultural adaptations of scales for assessing body image among young university students. A total of 304 studies were surveyed, with 14 studies published between 2010 and 2019 evaluated, focusing on the methodological procedures used in the process of cross-cultural adaptation and the main limitations, strengths, and results reported in each study. The information presented in this review will allow new researchers to make more appropriate choices about instruments for assessing body image in young university students.

Summary: The efficacy of prism adaptation training (PAT) for unilateral neglect may be influenced by clinical characteristics such as age, etiology, severity of motor impairments, and visual field deficits. Patients with subarachnoid bleeding may experience stronger functional recovery with PAT, while those with visual field deficits and severe contralateral motor impairments may show larger after-effect sizes. Lesion location also plays a role in recovery, with patients with parietal lesions showing reduced recovery and those with lesions in the basal ganglia recovering better. The present study contributes to understanding the effects of clinical characteristics on the effectiveness of PAT.

Summary: This study focused on two characteristics of human motor control regarding an acquired skill. It found that our movement is corrected based on errors even without the intention to correct them, and our movement outcomes vary even when attempting to perform the same movement repeatedly. The study also investigated the relationship between motor variability and motor adaptation, and found that larger motor variability leads to a greater correction of movement when a large error occurs.

Summary: In order to guide effective wound care for diabetic foot ulcers, a specific assessment tool is urgently needed. However, the tool is not available in Chinese. This study aimed to culturally translate and verify the validity and reliability of the new Diabetic Foot Ulcer Assessment Scale (DFUAS). The Chinese version of the DFUAS showed good validity and reliability, and is a reliable instrument for the assessment of diabetic foot ulcers.

Summary: This study found that a behavioral map is an effective way to quantify upper limb use and can complement information assessed regarding perceived use and by accelerometers. Bilateral upper limb use assessed by behavioral map is moderately correlated with bilateral Motor Activity Log-Amount of Use (MAL-AOU) and bilateral use by accelerometers. The correlation between bilateral capacity (TEMPA bilateral) and bilateral use (BM) is significant.

Summary: This study evaluated the reliability of remote Five Times Sit to Stand Test (FTSST) in multiple sclerosis patients. The results showed that assessing muscle strength through remote FTSST is reliable both in inter-rater and intra-rater scenarios. Therefore, it can be used by different raters for assessment or by the same rater in pre and post-test situations.

Summary: This study evaluated the effects of CIMT on individuals with severe hemiparesis. After a 2-week CIMT intervention, UL clinical assessments showed significant increases in GMAL scores at post-intervention and follow-ups, while GWMFT performance time scores significantly decreased at post-intervention and 1-month follow-up. Kinematic variability of the paretic UL also improved in all tasks except for turning on the light switch.
