Summary: Here, a protocol for anaerobic oxidation of alcohols, amines, aldehydes, and imines is reported using photoexcited nitroarenes. Mechanistic studies show that photoexcited nitroarenes undergo double hydrogen atom transfer (HAT) steps with alcohols and amines, leading to ketone and imine products. In the presence of aldehydes and imines, successive HAT and oxygen atom transfer (OAT) events occur, yielding carboxylic acids and amides, respectively. The use of a continuous-photoflow setup reduces reaction times.

Summary: This study compared the effects of conventional ozonation and electrochemical oxidation on the formation of aldehydes and aliphatic carboxylic acids during the oxidation of natural organic matter in low-mineralized surface water. The results showed that both ozonation and electrochemical oxidation were effective in degrading the organic matter, but ozonation resulted in higher yields of aldehydes while electrochemical oxidation produced fewer aliphatic carboxylic acids. Furthermore, the presence of elevated carbonate concentration had a minor influence on disinfection by-products in electrochemical oxidation.

Summary: Developing new and efficient methods for the controlled conversion of carboxylic acids to aldehydes is crucial. In this study, a rapid, modular and scalable method using pinacolborane at ambient temperature was developed. The reduction of acylpyridinium by HBpin enables the direct synthesis of aldehydes from carboxylic acids, with lower activation energy compared to the product aldehyde. The synthetic advantage of this protocol is demonstrated through scalable synthesis of aldehyde via continuous flow process.

Summary: We have reported the use of N-2,4-dinitrophenyltetrazoles as latent active esters (LAEs) in the synthesis of amide bonds. This method allows the generation of an HOBt-type active ester without the need for exogenous coupling agents. The methodology is applicable to a wide range of substrates, providing quantitative yields. The versatility and functional group tolerance were demonstrated in the one-step synthesis of various pharmaceutical agents and the N-acylation of resin-bound peptides.

Summary: This study successfully prepared three anhydrous cocrystals and three hydrate cocrystals using methods such as solvent-assisted grinding. The cocrystals were characterized through various techniques. The hydrogen bonding patterns between OBV and ECB in the cocrystals were similar to the ECB-benzoic acid cocrystal. The solubility and diffusion properties of the cocrystals were reduced compared to the native drug, mainly due to decreased concentration gradient and hydrophobic interactions.
