Summary: A 34-year-old woman presented to the hospital with palpitations, dyspnea, and chest discomfort. Initial workup revealed SVT, possibly related to the use of weight loss medication. Palpitations resolved after discontinuation of the drug.

Summary: This case describes successful treatment of fetal supraventricular tachycardia at term by eliciting the diving reflex with an ice pack to the maternal abdomen over the lower uterine segment. The neonate was given propranolol augmented with flecainide for recurrent supraventricular tachycardia and remained in a stable sinus rhythm without side effects 5 months later. The study suggests that cardioversion of fetal supraventricular tachycardia at term by eliciting the diving reflex could allow normal labor and vaginal delivery.

Summary: This study aimed to examine brady- and tachyarrhythmias using continuous rhythm monitoring in patients with paroxysmal self-terminating AF (PAF). The results showed that almost half of the PAF patients experienced severe bradyarrhythmias or rapid ventricular tachyarrhythmias during continuous rhythm monitoring.

Summary: Patients with brief arrhythmias pose a challenge for catheter ablation treatment, as current standard approaches lack stability and resolution. Novel mapping modalities have emerged to address previously unmappable arrhythmias, with potential for improved diagnosis and treatment. While sequential mapping techniques have struggled to map short-lived arrhythmias, new technological features offer a promising outlook for managing these conditions.

Summary: Physiological changes during pregnancy increase the risk of new-onset or recurrent arrhythmia. Supraventricular arrhythmia is the most common type, requiring careful monitoring and treatment. This article reviews complex cases and available literature, providing a framework for diagnosis and management of supraventricular arrhythmias in pregnant women.

Summary: This study compared the accuracy of a new D12V16 algorithm with the traditional Brugada algorithm in diagnosing VT in patients with WCT. The D12V16 algorithm showed higher specificity, while the Brugada algorithm demonstrated higher sensitivity. Both algorithms had high positive predictive value and similar accuracy.

Summary: Data on recurrence risk among infants with SVT are limited. This study found that factors associated with recurrence included fetal or late diagnosis, WPW syndrome, and the need for multi-antiarrhythmic or second-line therapy. Infants with early diagnosis, without WPW, and discharged on first-line monotherapy had the lowest recurrence risk.

Summary: Palpitations are a common concern for athletes seeking medical care. It is important to recognize that palpitations can be a sign of underlying cardiac issues. This review aims to provide insight into the pathophysiology, causes, diagnosis, management, and counseling strategies for athletes experiencing palpitations.

Summary: Palpitations in athletes are usually benign, but up to 10% of symptomatic athletes during practice and competition may exhibit major arrhythmic events. External loop recorders (ELR) are an efficient tool to identify these events and help in management of athletes with unexplained palpitations.

Summary: Supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) is a common condition in infants < 1 year of age, and ambulatory cardiac monitoring plays a crucial role in diagnosis and follow-up. In this retrospective study, extended ambulatory cardiac monitors detected a higher number of non-sustained or sustained SVT cases compared to 24-hour Holter monitoring. The first episode of SVT was usually detected within 24 hours of monitoring, and the diagnosis was made within a week for the majority of patients. Ambulatory cardiac monitors are important for diagnosing SVT, although their yield may be low.

Summary: This study found that with increasing age, both typical and atypical forms of AVNRT increased while AVRT decreased. Female sex predominance in AVNRT was not observed in older patients. Despite a longer tachycardia cycle length, patients became more symptomatic with age, but catheter ablation outcomes and complications were not associated with age.

Furthermore, returning to desired activity levels consistently lagged behind other symptom resolution by approximately two months.

Summary: This study examined the differences in coronary artery disease (CAD) risk factors between young adult men and women. The results showed that men reported more cardiovascular risk factors and developed them at an earlier age, while women had higher percentages of obesity and low activity levels. The study also found that hypertension had the highest odds ratio for developing CAD in this population. Therefore, personalized prevention efforts should be made for young men and women to reduce risk factors and prevent CAD.

Summary: This study examined the relationship between atrial fibrillation (AF) and cognitive disease progression, as well as sex differences. The results showed that AF was associated with a higher risk of dementia and mild cognitive impairment (MCI) in women. Women with AF and normal cognition were more likely to progress to MCI and vascular dementia than men or individuals without AF. However, further research is needed to confirm these findings.
