Summary: This study presents an asymmetric compound parabolic concentrator (ACPC)-based direct absorption solar collector (DASC) system using gold and silver nanoparticle-based plasmonic nanofluids. Real-time outdoor experiments demonstrate that the ACPC-based DASC system achieves a maximum thermal efficiency of around 70%, which is approximately 28% higher than a flat DASC system with water as the working fluid. Furthermore, the plasmonic nanofluids show excellent stability in retaining their optical properties even after hours of sun exposure.

Summary: This paper presents numerical simulations of solar assisted air source heat pump heating systems using compound parabolic concentrator-capillary tube solar collectors for domestic heating in the UK. The results show that the concentrated solar collector required is one third smaller in size and significantly reduces cost and convenient for installation compared to flat plate solar collectors. The high efficiency of the compound parabolic concentrator-capillary tube solar collector enables a smaller size of solar collector and wide rollout of solar assisted air source heat pump heating systems in locations with lower solar irradiance.

Summary: As the global population grows, the demand for food, energy, and water will increase significantly. However, limited land availability and competition for solar resources pose challenges to resource generation technologies. In the United States, both agriculture and solar energy production have adopted densification schemes to improve yields and energy output per unit of land. This research proposes an Agrivoltaic food and energy coproduction architecture that optimizes power generation while maintaining crop productivity by implementing ideal anti-tracking during critical growth periods. This technology offers a viable pathway for widespread solar implementation throughout the contiguous United States.
