Summary: The study found that patients who received combined chemotherapy and radiotherapy, had bone sarcoma, central nervous system primitive tumor, or underwent autologous hematopoietic cell transplant were more likely to attend long-term follow-up visits. Additionally, factors such as health status, medical expenses, social status, and distance from the follow-up center also influenced attendance.

Summary: This study reports the 5-year outcomes of EFFORTLESS registry patients with early generation subcutaneous implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (S-ICD) devices. The study found that the spontaneous shock efficacy remained consistently high over the 5-year period and very few patients required replacement with a transvenous device. Additionally, early arrhythmic episodes did not predict later complications.

Summary: This study found an association between occupational noise exposure and obesity among textile workers in Yazd city, Iran. Each 5 dBA increase in noise exposure was associated with a 10.6% increase in odds of being overweight. Occupational noise exposure should be considered a risk factor for cardiometabolic outcomes in industrial workers.

Summary: The BRAIN Study aimed to assess the associations between self-reported concussions and cognitive function among retired rugby players. The study recruited 146 former elite-level male rugby union players in England. Overall, there was no association between concussion and cognitive function; however, a significant interaction with age revealed an association in older participants.

Summary: A large-scale cohort study in Japan found that long-term use of antihypertensive drugs may be associated with an increased incidence of colorectal and renal cancer. There were significant differences in the medication period and adjusted hazard ratios for all cancers, indicating a complex relationship between antihypertensive drug use and cancer development.

Summary: This study aims to investigate and compare the gene expression and affected pathways in primary fibroblasts of childhood cancer survivors after exposure to different doses of ionizing radiation. The results show dose-dependent differences in the radiation response, suggesting an increased risk for adverse effects in certain groups of survivors.

Summary: This study assessed the metal fume exposure of welders in a shipyard using NF/FF mathematical model and BDA technique. Results showed a statistically significant correlation between predicted exposure concentrations and field worker's exposure concentrations, with Fe, Mn, and Pb exposures likely to exceed action levels, indicating immediate preventive measures should be taken.

Summary: In October 2022, the World Health Organization reevaluated the toxic equivalency factors (TEFs) for chlorinated dioxin-like compounds in a panel convened in Lisbon. This effort utilized an updated database, Bayesian dose response modeling, and meta-analysis to derive Best-Estimate TEFs. Applying these new TEFs may result in lower total toxic equivalents for dioxin-like chemicals.
