Summary: This study aimed to investigate the protective role of vitamin E in improving cardiotoxicity induced by cyclophosphamide in rats. The results showed that vitamin E could attenuate the elevation of cardiac markers, increase in lipid profiles, reduction in antioxidant enzyme activities, and increase in lipid peroxidation. In addition, vitamin E was found to improve the histopathological alterations caused by cyclophosphamide.

Summary: Long-term hyperglycemia in diabetes mellitus can cause damage to cardiomyocytes and dysfunction in heart mitochondria. However, the use of uridine, a pyrimidine nucleoside, has been found to improve cardiac function, restore mitochondrial homeostasis, and protect against structural and functional damage to cardiac mitochondria in diabetic mice.

Summary: Alisporivir has a positive impact on glucose utilization in diabetic mice, preventing diabetes-induced changes in mitochondrial ultrastructure and ATP synthase levels, and restoring mitochondrial function. Additionally, Alisporivir modulates mitochondrial gene expression, inhibits sensitivity to MPT pore opening, and normalizes mitochondrial dynamics.

Summary: This study examined the relationship between malondialdehyde (MDA) concentrations and Plasmodium infections. The results showed that MDA concentrations were significantly elevated in patients with malaria compared to uninfected controls, indicating an increase in oxidative stress and lipid peroxidation. MDA levels can be a valuable biomarker for evaluating these processes in individuals with malaria.

Summary: This study reveals that 1,8-Cineole, limonene and alpha-terpineol found in Callistemon citrinus attenuated oxidative stress through antioxidant and anti-inflammatory mechanisms in rats fed with a high-fat-sucrose diet. These terpenes showed different effects on hepatic cells and oxidative biomarkers, but exhibited the same positive effects on pro-inflammatory cytokines. The findings highlight the significant anti-inflammatory effects of these terpenes and their importance in the activities of Callistemon citrinus.

Summary: The study investigated the integrated influence of pollutant concentrations on phytoremediation efficiency by aquatic macrophytes. Results showed that COD removal efficiency increased with pollutant concentration, while TN, NH4+-N and TP purification efficiencies were inhibited at high concentration levels. Physiological responses in submerged macrophytes were explored to estimate the correlation between them and pollutant concentrations, with oxidative stress proved by higher MDA content. Antioxidant enzyme responses were induced to maintain plant health, but were inhibited in high pollutant concentration levels, leading to unhealthy symptoms in plants. The study concludes that excessive concentrations of organics and nutrients may inhibit adaptive physiological regulations and reduce phytoremediation efficiency.

Summary: The study investigated the lipid composition and biochemical profile of plasma and erythrocyte membranes in diabetes and alcoholic diabetes in rats. The results showed that STZ-induced diabetic rats exhibited hepatic damage, leading to increased plasma lipid peroxidation, nitrate, and nitrite levels. Diabetic rats treated with alcohol also showed decreased activities of antioxidants. The findings suggest that nitric oxide scavenging levels increased in diabetic hepatopathy rats, potentially protecting against oxidative stress and free radicals.
