Summary: This study focuses on the potential of Fe3O4-NPs-based polymer for the sustainable bioremediation of toxic substances in contaminated water. The biosynthesis of Fe3O4-NPs was carried out for the first time, and the optimal production conditions were determined. The Fe3O4-NPs were successfully incorporated into chitosan beads, which showed remarkable removal capability and reusability. The results demonstrated that Fe3O4-NPs-based biopolymer is an efficient and sustainable biosorbent for the elimination of hazardous pollutants in wastewater.

Summary: This study evaluates the effects of Iron oxides (FeOx) species and their decoration on GO/CS composites for Cr(VI) removal, finding that Fe(III) is a better decoration material. The Fe2O3-GO/CS composite shows high removal efficiency (94.3%) and adsorption capacity (83.8 mg/g) under optimal conditions. Cr(VI) adsorption is spontaneous, endothermic, and best fitted with the Sips model.

Summary: This paper investigates the use of an iron-oxides photoactive coating for visible-light induced hydroxylation reactions. The coating was shown to be an effective catalyst for the photocatalytic degradation of azo-dyes pollutants and the photosynthesis of guaiacol. The study provides insights into optimization routes and paves the way for the industrial application of photosynthetic methods.

Summary: Iron oxide concretions are commonly found in sedimentary rocks on Earth and Mars. The formation conditions are influenced by the paleoclimate of the regions, with favorable conditions for formation being a pH range of 4.5 to 6 and iron oxide concentrations between 10(-7) and 10(-5). Dynamic simulations showed that groundwater flow speed also plays a role in the formation process.

Summary: Nano iron oxide based granular adsorbents (NIOC) were developed for Cr(VI) removal, showing bifunctional sorption abilities and high adsorption capacity. NIOC-2 with optimized Fe(III)/chitosan monomer ratio demonstrated the highest adsorption capacity and could be effectively regenerated for repeated use.

Summary: This study compared the adsorption of different synthetic dyes on chitosan cryogel beads and analyzed the impact of solution pH on adsorption capacity. The biosorbent was characterized by SEM, BET method and FTIR. Results showed that the adsorption process is mainly regulated by physisorption and amino groups participate in the adsorption process, with Blue 1 > Red 2 > Yellow 5 being the order of adsorption capacity.

Summary: A new type of magnetic microparticles, Sr3.8Fe25.7O70.4-chitosan, was synthesized and found to efficiently remove toxic dyes at a fast rate. The microparticles follow Langmuir isotherm and pseudo-second-order model, making them a promising material for wastewater treatment.

Summary: Granular macroscopic chitosan/carboxymethylcellulose polyelectrolytic complexes (CHS/CMC macro-PECs) were studied as adsorbents for six pollutants often found in wastewater. The optimum adsorption pH values were determined for each pollutant. Kinetic and isotherm studies were conducted to analyze the adsorption behavior, with the Langmuir model providing the best fit. The maximum adsorption capacity and desorption capabilities of the CHS/CMC macro-PECs were also evaluated.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of organic carbon (OC) binding strength on the aging of ferrihydrite and the fate of associated OC. It is found that OC substantially retards the aging process and that OC with higher binding strength becomes more stable with the solid phase during aging. The results provide insights into the mechanisms behind OC persistence with minerals and its long-term preservation in natural environments.

Summary: A novel recyclable photocatalyst is developed by anchoring organic dyes on biomass-derived polymers through a facile ion-exchange process. It is highly effective for selective oxidation reactions and can be used for the synthesis of sulfoxides from alkenes and thiols. The biomass-supported organic dyes photocatalysts show great promise in the transformation of organic chemicals into valuable complexes due to their synthetic utility, recoverability, reusability, and simplified purification process.

Summary: An updated review is presented on emerging plant proteases, which show great potential for biotechnological applications. Plant proteases exhibit comparable or even better performance than animal or microbial proteases for by-product valorization and wastewater treatment. They have advantages such as low cost isolation, remarkable stability, broad substrate affinity, and the possibility of immobilization. Vegetable proteases have enormous potential for converting industrial waste into high-value products through low-cost processes.
