Summary: The study found that multiple myeloma patients in the United States had poorer health-related quality of life compared to the general population, with factors such as socioeconomic status, comorbidities, and treatment status being associated with worse HRQoL outcomes. More research is needed to explore the relationship between treatment patterns and HRQoL, and to identify effective interventions.

Summary: This study aimed to examine the predictive properties of different patient-reported outcome (PRO) measures for all-cause mortality, acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and associated hospitalization. The results showed that the Baseline Dyspnea Index (BDI), St. George's Respiratory Questionnaire (SGRQ), COPD Assessment Test (CAT), and Hyland Scale scores were significantly related to mortality. Furthermore, almost all clinical, physiological, and PRO measurements were found to be associated with the first exacerbation and associated hospitalization.

Summary: This study examined the knowledge of sepsis among adults in Canada and found that 39% of respondents had never heard of sepsis, and only 32% had limited knowledge of its symptoms, risk factors, and prevention strategies. The study suggests that education initiatives should focus on infection prevention, utilize broad media strategies, and involve healthcare providers in disseminating evidence-based information.

Summary: This study examined factors related to disease-specific health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in women with anorexia nervosa (AN) compared to normal-weight controls, finding that women with AN had poorer HRQoL, psychological health, and work/social functioning. Eating disorder symptomatology played a role in affecting HRQoL in both groups, but for women with AN, additional factors like bulimia, maturity fears, depression, vitality, and older age also significantly influenced HRQoL. Together, the investigated factors explained 79% of the variance in EDQLS score, suggesting the importance of managing disordered self-assessment and thought processes in the treatment of AN.

Summary: This study examined the validity of three validated questionnaires when administered remotely, aiming to confirm their effectiveness outside of an office setting. The questionnaires were administered by phone and in person to women with and without incontinence, and the scores were found to be generally comparable. This suggests that remote administration of these questionnaires can be useful for assessing women with incontinence who may be difficult to reach through traditional office visits.

Summary: The aim of this study was to identify factors associated with patient empowerment in people living with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in the Canary Islands (Spain). The analysis included the baseline data of 2334 patients. Results showed that age, diabetes knowledge, and state-anxiety are significantly associated with patient empowerment. Sex, education level, living alone, employment status, country of birth, time since diagnosis, number of comorbidities, glycated haemoglobin level, depression, and distress were not independently associated with patient empowerment in the multivariate analyses.

Summary: The study aims to preliminarily evaluate the degree of food addiction in a non-clinical pilot pediatric population using the Spanish Yale Food Addiction Scale for Children (S-YFAS-C). The findings show that 20% of the sample exhibits three or more symptoms of food addiction, indicating a risk of developing a food disorder and distorted body image. The S-YFAS-C scale proves to be effective in evaluating food addiction in Spanish-speaking boys and girls, with similar results to the original scale.
