Summary: This meta-analysis found that Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) has significant effectiveness in reducing symptoms of PTSD in children and adolescents, and it also improves comorbidities of depression and anxiety associated with PTSD. However, CBT is not effective in reducing avoidance symptoms.

Summary: The study found that adolescents with a history of prior psychological trauma appear to have a more realistic appraisal of potential difficulties associated with traumatic events, show less reactive to PTSD symptoms, and become more cautious as they grow older. The results suggest that the role of anxiety may work differently in newly traumatized and retraumatized individuals.

Summary: This study investigated the epidemiology and influencing factors of traumatic events and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in communities in northern China. The results showed that approximately 34.3% of the surveyed students experienced traumatic events, with 33.2% reporting symptoms of PTSD. The sudden death of close relatives, serious accidents, and parental divorce were reported as the worst traumatic events. Factors such as being a middle school student, not being a student leader, and having single parents were significantly associated with higher prevalence of PTSD.

Summary: Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is associated with cognitive impairments. This study found that unresolved PTSD symptoms were associated with worse cognitive function, while remitted PTSD symptoms had similar cognitive function compared to those without PTSD. Both unresolved and remitted PTSD symptoms were associated with accelerated cognitive decline, especially in women with high symptom levels.

Summary: Adolescents with C-PTSD exhibit more severe clinical symptoms and greater deficits in neurocognitive functions compared to those with PTSD, with higher likelihood of experiencing sexual assault, dissociation, and self-harm. Emotional perception, attention, and working memory were found to be correlated with the severity of C-PTSD symptoms, highlighting the importance of addressing emotional and neurocognitive functions in assessment and treatment.

Summary: This study aimed to assess posttraumatic stress disorders among children and adolescents in conflict-affected zones of the Amhara region in Ethiopia from January to February 2022. A total of 846 children were screened, and 203 children (36.45%) were found to have posttraumatic stress disorders. Based on these results, the study recommends mass screening and rehabilitation services, including resilience training and psychosocial support, for children and adolescents.

Summary: The COVID-19 pandemic has led to an increase in mental health problems globally, particularly post-traumatic stress (PTS) among children and adolescents. This study examines the direct and indirect exposure of COVID-19 experiences on children and adolescents and its relationship with PTS and post-traumatic growth (PTG). Data from 412 participants aged 9-20 reveal high rates of PTS, with a significant association between direct exposure to hospitalization and higher PTS. Indirect exposure through electronic media is also linked to higher PTS, while magazine reading is associated with higher PTG.

Summary: There is a high risk of developing post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in children and adolescents after catastrophic events. This study found evidence of brain functional and structural abnormalities in this population. In addition, alterations in regional cortical thickness (CTh) and brain interregional structural covariance networks (SCNs) were identified.

It found a high number of cytoskeletal-mutated genes when comparing with autism, intellectual disability, cytoskeleton, inflammation, and DNA repair databases. Additionally, more putative high impact mutated genes specific to PTSD-symptom cohorts were identified, highlighting the importance of tumor necrosis factor in these cohorts.

Summary: The study found associations between urban birth and paranoia, schizotypal symptoms, and schizophrenia, which were only confirmed after adjusting for depression. Urban residence for over 10 years was also related to these phenotypes, with schizophrenia specifically associated with urban exposure during birth to 3 years. Urbanicity did not show associations with demographics, family history, or child maltreatment, suggesting that the effects of urban living on psychosis are independent of these factors.
