Summary: This study aimed to investigate the correlations between health literacy, transplant effects, and compliance to treatment in organ transplant recipients and identify the factors influencing treatment compliance. The participants were organ transplant recipients visiting a transplantation center in Seoul, South Korea. The findings showed that health literacy, specifically actively managing one's health and social support for health, significantly affected treatment compliance. This highlights the importance of assessing patients' health literacy and providing tailored interventions to enhance patient outcomes.

Summary: This study investigated the kidney transplantation knowledge of KT candidates and recipients, and explored the related influencing factors. The results showed that the knowledge level was moderate and significantly associated with education level and health education. Age and fertility status were only significantly associated with the knowledge level in recipients. Therefore, healthcare providers should pay more attention to the health education of this population, considering factors such as education level, age, and fertility status.

Summary: This study investigates the association between the gut microbiome and Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQoL) in kidney transplant recipients. The results show that multiple bacterial species are associated with lower HRQoL in this population, and physical and mental HRQoL explain a significant part of the variance in the gut microbiome. Additionally, metabolic and neuroactive pathways are also associated with lower HRQoL, suggesting potential modifiable factors to improve HRQoL.

Summary: Vascular and valvular calcifications are common in kidney transplant recipients and associated with increased risk of cardiovascular events. Despite resolution of uremia-related metabolic derangements, recipients are still exposed to pro-calcifying stimuli, highlighting the need for strategies to correct or minimize their effects.

Summary: Most dually enrolled veterans undergo kidney transplantation at non-Veterans Health Administration centers using Medicare, but rely on Veterans Health Administration for post-transplant care. Patients who receive post-transplant care exclusively from Veterans Health Administration have the lowest 5-year mortality rate.

Summary: Obesity negatively impacts clinical outcomes in kidney transplant recipients. Limited information is available on the prevalence of obesity in this population and the associated lifestyle habits. This study found that the burden of obesity among kidney transplant recipients is similar to that of the general population. Adherence to the Mediterranean diet is generally low, and a significant portion of recipients have a low level of physical activity.

Summary: After kidney transplantation, dynamic changes occur in iron storage. The study found that high iron status, indicated by high TSAT levels, increases the risk of graft failure or kidney functional deterioration in kidney transplant patients.

Summary: This study evaluated endotrophin (ETP) as a prognostic marker in kidney transplant recipients. It found that ETP levels in the blood on the first day after transplantation were strongly associated with delayed graft function, while ETP levels in the urine at the third month after transplantation were significantly correlated with kidney graft function at twelve months. The measurement of collagen type VI formation could aid in predicting graft function in kidney transplant recipients.

Summary: The characterization of potential kidney transplant recipients using novel biomarkers can lead to improved outcomes after transplantation. This mini-review focuses on the current understanding of pretransplant recipients' characteristics, biomarkers, and immunology. Clinical characteristics and immunological risk assessment, such as histocompatibility leukocyte antigens (HLAs) and non-HLA antibodies, have been used to predict recipient and allograft survival. Recent studies have shown that pretransplant markers, such as plasma endotrophin levels and non-synonymous single-nucleotide polymorphism mismatch, are associated with posttransplant complications and allograft loss. Integrating clinical characteristics and novel markers is important for making better diagnostic decisions tailored to individual patients.

Summary: This study aims to investigate the relationship between POSTN in saliva and renal function. The study found that salivary POSTN levels were significantly higher in the group with normal renal function compared to the group with graft failure. This may be due to the absence of disturbing factors in saliva. Therefore, saliva is considered a promising diagnostic fluid with advantages like ease of collection and non-invasiveness.

Summary: Itch is a common symptom of chronic dermatoses and can be associated with systemic disorders. This study found that itch is a significant burden in renal transplant recipients (RTR), with higher prevalence of anxiety and depression among those experiencing itch. The severity of itch was positively correlated with anxiety, depression, and stigmatization. The results highlight the importance of addressing itch relief in a holistic approach to RTR patients.
