Summary: A facile single-step synthesis approach was reported for developing reduced graphene oxide (rGO) supported copper nanoparticles that can function as a peroxidase enzyme mimicking catalyst. The Cu-rGO composite shows potential for applications in developing hybrid sensing and detection systems for hydrogen peroxide, as well as for glucose detection.

Summary: A glycolate oxidase enzyme from Rhodococcus jostii RHA1 has been found to effectively couple with DyP peroxidase enzymes from Agrobacterium sp. or Comamonas testosteroni at pH 6.5 to oxidize lignin substrates without the addition of hydrogen peroxide. This glycolate oxidase is also active for the oxidation of various α-ketoaldehyde and α-hydroxyacid substrates, as well as the conversion of hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) to furandicarboxylic acid. The combination of this enzyme with DyP peroxidase generates new aromatic products from organosolv lignin substrates and can also produce high-value products from lignin residue from biofuel production and polymeric humin substrate.

Summary: This study demonstrates the potential of combining gold nanoparticles and enzymes into hybrid catalytic materials. The hybrid material allows for the conversion of glucose to a more valuable product under mild reaction conditions without the need for external oxidants. The results open up new possibilities for the application of metal nanoparticle-enzyme hybrids in catalytic biomass conversion.

Summary: Melatonin treatment enhances soybean seedling tolerance to saline-alkali stress by reducing reactive oxygen species (ROS) accumulation and DNA oxidative damage. The treatment also upregulates DNA damage repair genes, promoting the repair of DNA oxidative damage. Additionally, melatonin treatment alleviates the SA-induced cell cycle arrest and improves soybean seedling tolerance to saline-alkali stress.

Summary: Dr. Sue Goo Rhee is recognized as a Redox Pioneer for his impactful research in the field of antioxidants and redox signaling. His work on phospholipase C family members and peroxiredoxins has shed light on the thiol-mediated reduction of H2O2 and the regulation of cellular signaling. The discovery of how peroxiredoxins participate in H2O2 signaling pathways has provided valuable insights into the mechanisms underlying cell signaling and oxidative stress regulation.

Summary: Myeloperoxidase (MPO) is a crucial part of the human innate immune system and is responsible for producing hypochlorous acid (HOCl), a highly oxidizing and chlorinating species. However, excessive generation of HOCl by MPO is linked to various inflammatory diseases. Therefore, the development of MPO inhibitors is of great interest. In this study, a boronobenzyl derivative of acetaminophen (AMBB) was synthesized and characterized as a proinhibitor of MPO, which can release acetaminophen, an inhibitor of MPO's chlorination cycle, in the presence of inflammatory oxidants.

Summary: Efficiency study was conducted on the horseradish peroxidase (HRP) activity in Brilliant Blue-G (BB) decolorization with hydrogen peroxide, showing HRP is highly efficient in dye decolorization despite operational inactivation. Protective effects of bicarbonate anions on enzyme inactivation caused by the oxidizing substrate were observed, while their impact on inactivation due to BB degradation products was less significant.
