Summary: In this study, RIPK1 expression was found to significantly contribute to cisplatin-induced apoptosis in human ESCC cells. Reduced RIPK1 expression promoted cell proliferation, while overexpressed RIPK1 facilitated apoptosis. Mechanistic investigations revealed that inhibition of RIPK1 proliferation in ESCC cells was regulated through activation of the c-Jun NH2-terminal kinase signaling pathway, leading to mitochondrial damage, ATP depletion, and increased reactive oxygen species generation.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the effects and mechanisms of salidroside on macrophage polarization induced by cigarette smoke (CS). The results showed that salidroside could alleviate pulmonary inflammation and M1 polarization of alveolar macrophages (AMs) induced by CS, and the mechanism might be related to the inhibition of the JNK/c-Jun signaling pathway.

Summary: The main bioactive compound in licorice, liquiritin (LQ), has significant anti-inflammatory effects against acute lung injury (ALI) induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS). It inhibits the activation of the JNK/Nur77/c-Jun signaling pathway, suggesting that LQ may be a potential therapeutic candidate for ALI and inflammatory disorders.

Summary: In colorectal cancer, PGE2-JNK can activate the Hh signaling pathway non-canonically. This study demonstrates that c-Jun prevents Gli2 protein from degradation by protease through phosphorylation by PGE2. Suppression of c-Jun decreases Gli2 expression and ubiquitination, and restricts PGE2-induced Hh activity and colorectal cancer cell proliferation.

Summary: The study reveals that the JNK signaling pathway plays a positive role in the formation of dental papilla cell polarity, as indicated by the up-regulation of polarity-related genes and rescue effects of RhoA Q63L mutant. JNK activation is linked to polarization, migration, and differentiation of dental papilla cells, highlighting its importance in tooth development.

Summary: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and alcohol-associated liver disease (ALD) both involve lipid deposition in hepatocytes, with NAFLD occurring without excessive alcohol consumption and ALD occurring with excessive alcohol consumption. These conditions range from simple steatosis to more severe forms of liver disease. The term metabolic associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) has been proposed to better reflect the risk factors and progression of the disease. Extracellular vesicles (EVs) released by cells contain cellular cargo and can serve as biomarkers for identifying the degree and type of liver disease. Mesenchymal stem cell (MSC)-derived EVs (MSC-EVs) have shown promise in regulating the immune response and are being investigated as a treatment for liver disease.

Summary: This study compared the survival outcomes of proton beam therapy (PBT) with radiofrequency ablation (RFA) in treatment-naive solitary hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The results showed that after propensity score matching, there was no significant difference in recurrence-free survival (RFS) and overall survival (OS) between PBT and RFA. PBT can be considered as an alternative treatment for patients with solitary treatment-naive HCC.

Summary: The potential of methylated SEPT9 gene as a biomarker for the treatment efficacy of molecular targeted agents (MTAs) in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) was investigated. The study analyzed 157 patients receiving sorafenib or lenvatinib as a first-line therapy and found that AFP level, methylated SEPT9 (m-SEPT9) level, and Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) performance status were significant predictors of overall survival (OS) in HCC patients. A predictive score called the MTA score was developed based on these predictors, and it showed that patients with MTA scores >= 2 had a significantly poor prognosis compared to those with MTA scores >= 1.

Summary: Pancreatic cancer is often diagnosed at late stages, making treatment difficult. Early diagnosis is crucial, but it can be challenging due to nonspecific symptoms. Recent studies suggest that selective screening and biomarkers can improve early detection. This review discusses advancements in imaging, biomarkers, biopsies, surveillance, and machine learning for identifying high-risk individuals. These new methods and techniques have the potential to improve overall survival in pancreatic cancer patients.

Summary: We report a case of steatohepatitis that occurred after pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) and led to decompensated liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Our findings indicate that progression to liver cirrhosis and HCC may become a severe problem in long-term post-PD survival, highlighting the need for further research on the mechanism of steatohepatitis after PD and the development of appropriate therapeutic strategies.
